as the franz josef village isnt very large itself, the gwc are close to everything. the kitchen is very good, and alsways clean. the free soup was yummy...loved the tv room in the evenings just to hang out. our dorm room was unfortunately quite cold as there was a door to the outside not totally closing. but the staff gave us extra blankets so it was ok :) all in all very good value for money

I like this place - have stayed 3 times now, and for the first time on this stay we had a mouse problem - one was in the small kitchenette in our room at night. Staff were really apologetic and apparently it's not a common occurrence and they immediately checked for gaps or holes, but it was disconcerting!

Only stayed 1 night but everything you would expect in a hostel was good & location was great for Franz Josef Glacier

Lovely hostel - don't be fooled by the exterior (or at least what you can see from the road). Inside it is a cosy, antique-filled, warm haven. The free evening soup was a great bonus! I only stayed 2 nights in a dorm room, but inside these there are mini kitchenettes and en-suites. Not sure if this is ubiquitous for the dorm rooms, but I don't remember specifying this in particular. Beds are comfy and seem new. Everything spotless. Wifi available and can be picked up from the dorm room. :)

Perfect, even when it was raining. Sort out trips to the glacier which is all you're there for but they make everything easy. Relaxed, friendly atmosphere.

One of the best hostels I stayed in. Excellent value for money and a really nice atmosphere. Had a rainy day ther which I enjoyed very much at the fire place. Heaps of space and really nice staff!

The free soup, the TV in the room, and the movie room all made our stay cozy and entertaining...since it was raining the entire time. The staff are also very nice and helpful. The ensuite bathrooms are pretty small and the doors don't close properly though.

We liked this place. We had originally booked two nights but changed our travel plans. The staff returned our money for the second night without any hassle. Very friendly staff. They provide soup every night, which is nice of them, though it could use a little more flavor. It is nicely located close to the Glacier and town. It was quiet enough and is well set up to meet people. Not a large Kiwi Experience population while we were there.

Helpful English staff member at the desk when we checked in. Rang around for tour options. Use of BBQ, though it was damaged at the time. Disappointing that the spa was broken. Huge common room and kitchen. Fire. Great location.

The staff are extremely helpful with anything you may require during your stay. There is an offer of soup for the duration of your stay and although i did not take them up on this offer, it was much appreciated. The only "downside" to staying at Glow Worm is the choice of decorations in the room...i find large hand saws quite intimidating normally and find it hard to sleep when they are hanging from the side of the wall/ceiling. Then again, that's probably just me. A great place, do visit!
