I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Golden Lodge. The historic house itself is stunningly beautiful with decor & furnishings in keeping with its colonial character overlooking the very picturesque cityscape & seaview. The staff too went out of their way to accommodate me. It was a pleasure to stay there, I would stay there again as a first choice & would not hesitate to recommend it to family & friends looking for very good value accommodation in Nelson.

By far the best lodge we have stayed at yet! The atmosphere was luxurious, and the location was perfect. Everything was immaculate and it was so peaceful!

Really really beautiful place! This is unlike any other 'backpackers' I have ever stayed in... Surely more a setting for a Kiwi Agatha Christie novel than a cheap night's lodging, we were blown away by the chandaliers and flock wallpaper, not to mention the stunning views over Nelson at both sunrise, and sunset. And all day really! If you're staying in Nelson, you have to give this place a look. It's only a couple of minutes walk in to town, and pretty much the centre of NZ. Treat yourself!

In terms of value for money the Golden Lodge cannot be faulted. A thoroughly cordial and welcoming experience. Don

We could not believe our eyes. This place is amazing!!! It is more like a hotel than a hostel. We would love to stay here again and cannot recommend it enough!!!

Very special place. Exquisitely renovated house and cared for grounds.Spacious comfortable room. Only recommendations- better bedside lamps and a pamphlet outlining the interesting history of the house.

The Golden Lodge is a great place - very unusual in a positive sense. When we first saw our rooms we could not believe this was really a hostel .. The managers were really friendly and relaxed. We had X-mas dinner together with all the other guests, that created a great atmosphere. What may be improved was the directions to the hostel. We saw the building from far but could not find our way straight away as there were no signs indicating the way up.

Stayed there for three nights and really enjoyed it. Stunning location combined with a friendly staff, a sure thing if you are staying in Nelson
