Overall this was a pretty decent place to stay. It's located in a fairly quiet section of the old city which was nice, although it was a good 30 min walk over to the night market and most of the bars and nightlife. The staff gets an A for sure though. One of the guys personally drove us to check out a Cobra show outta town one afternoon with no advance warning, he also got up at 6am to personally drive us to the airport when we were leaving. Poor wifi connection in the room was frustrating tho.
Gongkaew is a nice hostel in a quiet neighbourhood, the big garden where you could sit on lounge chairs was the biggest advantage of Gongkaew
Really nice place to stay, clean rooms, good bathroom facilities and social area. Wifi a bit sketchy, never managed to connect with my phone, but there were also computers available for free. Staff very helpful, both with hostel-related and activity-related questions. Prett good place all over, really!
Nice and clean hostel. Basics room with ac. Lockers are small and outside, next to the reception. Very nice and beautiful outdoor area. Coffee, tea and toast with butter or jam are available all the time :D Its value for the money. I recommended this hostel
Nothing negative about the hostel : the staff is very friendly and helpful, the hostel is clean, you're just 10 minutes from the city center. And the garden with the chairs and sofas is a nice way to meet people and relax after walking all the day ! Free coffee and toasts all the day !! I definitely recommand to the people going to Chiang Mai to stay at this hostel
Excellent hostel close to the temples and good places to eat/drink. It's about a stones throw away from a massage area and around 5-10 minutes to the centre of Chiang Mai. Tea/coffee and toast are available 24/7 along with lockers, laundry facilities and a place to have a beer and relax. WiFi is excellent and would thoroughly recommend. I would go for the en-suite otherwise the shower area and toilet are communal.

only booked here 2 nights originally, ended up staying here for 7 in total! This family run guest house is really just what you need when coming to chiang mai. It's always clean, dorms are simple and nice, WIFI works perfect and the garden is really nice to chillout and relax in. I really enjoyed my stay here, the staff are always friendly and are always happy to help. Location is perfect, just a short walk to WAT PRAH SINGH. Free tea coffee and toast 24/7! Will be back!
This is a really interesting hostel as it feels very natural and organic. There is a nice lounge area and you can buy some drinks or beer from the front desk fridge if you like. It is a little far away from the night market area, but it is in the heart of the old city, so you can just walk around all day and take in the sights inside of the old city walls. The bathrooms are all outdoors, but they are very modern and pretty clean.
A good location within inner moat, with friendly staff and pleasant surroundings. My only gripe was the intermittent WIFI.
Very friendly family run guest house. Nice setting, free tea/coffee and toast. Very helpful when needed, short walk to main area in old town.
Great place to meet people, walk to most places and really clean. Staff were super helpful to
Good location in Old Town and friendly owner. Room was basic, but clean and just what we needed. Main complaint is the sewage-like smell permeating from the bathroom that seemed to increase each day we stayed, with flushing the toilet and running water. However, we noticed the same smell in the bathroom of the second place we stayed in Chiang Mai as well, so maybe it's not an unusual thing. The other complaint is the ridiculously slow internet and that only one computer worked.

It is amazing! It gave us a feeling like home and we enjoyed it so much! We will go there again if we go to Chiangmai and I would like to highly recommend it to my friends.

Hostel is located in a great location. However watch out for lizards in the rooms. Stop were very friendly and very helpful in suggesting tours Or even setting up transportation to and from the airport. Overall it was a great experience for a few days stay.
Reception staff very friendly and helpful re: booking trips and transport - no pressure to book trips as appears to be the case at other hostels according to reviews. Stayed in a 3 bed private room which was clean and within nice grounds - only problem is building work taking place next door and some noise (loud music) from a school nearby. Seating areas, free computers and honesty bar were all appreciated and the garden area provides a good place to meet others. Approx 20min walk to main centre
Very nice chill out area and great rooms. Recommended
I stayed in a mixed dorm room for three nights. Hostel has a cool outdoor common area - which was really social and all the backpackers mixed and went out together every night. Good location in old town. Def recommend it!
My boyfriend and I stayed for 3 nights at the hostel and it was really nice place. Staff were really helpful and we could rent a motor from he hostel itself so it was very handy. Rooms are good size and very clean as well, only thing is that the air con can get too cold and we couldn't really turn it down with the remote.
The batroom was very old, altough it was clean
Nice and cozy hostel, near the center of chiang mai. Common room is in the middle of tropical plants. You can have free toasts and tea and coffè all day and night. Staff was supernice and always ready to help or smile
