Stayed for three nights. The rooms were OK, aircon worked fine. Quiet area though, you need to walk about 20 minutes to get to the "touristy" part of town on the east side of the moat, but this wasn't a problem for us. Free toast and coffee good, they let us use the fridge and microwave too with no issues. For the money it's pretty good!
This was a great hostel a little ways away from the main area of Chiang Mai. The room was very clean and spacious with great natural light. The outside courtyard is really cute, and you can use wifi in the whole area. I recommend renting a motorbike from the front desk and scooting around the city !
The hostel is in the old town of Chiang Mai in the very north. You can rent bikes there which we did to drive around the city. You can also get toast and tea 24 hours =) It is more a quiet place to be but it was nice, especially the garden!
Great hostel that was well maintained. Located inside the old city. We didn't find it that social but that also comes to the luck of other travellers.
This is a really lovely and tranquil place to stay. You hear the sound of crickets at night which gives it a special touch. Insects do get into the room which is understandable given the setting (mainly little ants). Free toast and tea/coffee for breakfast which was really nice. Staff are lovely and very helpful. If you want a place to relax and disconnect from the world for a while then Gongkaew is the perfect place.
Really chill stay here. My only gripe is that there weren't very many people when I came so the social aspect was nill, not their fault though so no complaints! Feels like American summer camp here and the staff are very helpful. Communal spaces outdoors are really nice!
Lovely staff and met some great people here. Quiet atmosphere but nice to chill out for the night. Free coffee tea and toast is a winner! Very very clean and safe!
nice and cheap hostel but too many mosquito out there. A bit inconvenient about the gate lock. A convenient one would be much better. hi, emily from texes. just forgot to get your facebook or any contacts. hope you will see this comment.
We left the hostel in the very early morning. As the staff was not able to speak or understand any English, it was not possible to receive our deposit for the key back.

I had a wonderful stay, the staff were extremely helpful and kind, I stayed in a private en-suite room and it was very nice and very clean. The first few nights were quite quiet but then more people arrived and had more fun! Would defo recommend!
Has a really nice covered outdoors social area with free tea, coffee and toast on offer. Bathrooms and dorm rooms are clean. Staff were friendly and helpful.
I was a bit disappointed when i saw my room. Unfortunately there were ants in the bathroom, hiding between the tiles. These ants we walking in the sink and the shower. Nothing too crazy but i did not expect that in a 91% rated hostel. Very nice is the bar and and hangout area in front of the main building, where you can have beers and meet other travelers. Staff was very friendly and helpful.
