A pretty decent hostel. English speaking staff, nice clean rooms, and half decent showers made for a good stay.
This is a very chilled out hostel in a quiet part of Chiang mai (but still within the moat). The common area is completely opn air and they have a nice garden, so it's a really great spot to just relax and read a book (which they have a ton of). But be warned, there are mosquitoes. Free toast, coffee, tea all day. Dorms and bathrooms very clean. Lockers small and located outside dorms. Bring your own lock. As a quiet guy who likes nature, this has been my favourite hostel in Thailand.
Gongkaew offered a great stay in a great location in central Chiang mai. It was a relaxed and chill environment that was not full of party guests when I was there so maybe not everyone's scene. The people were social and inviting as well as the staff. They have complimentary tea, coffee and toast all day
Very pleasant hostel which provides something different in Chiang Mai with the 'village' layout. Good value for money and recommended although mosquitoes can be an issue at night
The staff are very friendly and helpful. The rooms are clean. It's located in the old city, but it's very quiet and feels secluded. Overall a wonderful experience.
Even if is not exactly at the center of chiang mai (is still at the center and you can arrive easily anywhere by walking), the atmosphere is so peacefull, so nice. You will need to use something for the mosquitos, there is a lot because of grass and all the beautifull atmosphere. The staff is excelent! they help you in everything! And you have always, in the atrium, for free, coffea, tea, chocolate and toasts. The internet is also good. It worth every bath! :)
The hostel is in the middle of city, far from the main street less than 200 m then it is convenient to get local taxi. The atmosphere is good, Thai local style and clean. They provide you a key since the main entrance is closed after 8pm, that is good for our car that we park it there overnight. The hostel does not provide the breakfast, but they do providing bread, coffee&tea whole day long. However the toast baker is not working well. We had problem in using it. Overall is value of money.
Wonderful place. Great ambience in the garden area where you can get drinks and great food. Good value for money.
I liked it. I will go back if I go to Chiangmai next time.
Gong Kaew Home treated us extremely well. It is an excellent place to hang out; the architecture and common area both were really great. The staff was quite helpful and fairly present. Our room was super clean and felt very new (because it was). The location is fine if you are okay with walking; otherwise, it is easy to get a tuk tuk or hop into a truck. Sweet place. Would definitely stay here again...although someone needs to kill the rooster that provides the 5:00 a.m. wake-up call every morn.
Staff was new in the city at the time we visited so they didn't have much insights or information regarding the city for us, but was always happy to make an effort and find things out. It's clean but you'll have to specifically ask to have your towels changed if you are staying for a longer period. They have no safe deposit in the rooms but there are lockers outside. Location is good too, in the north-western corner of the old city which you can visit on foot easily :)
The staff is phenomenal!!! If you can afford it stay in one of the private rooms with ac it's awesome!!The facility is lacking a touch everywhere else. Needs better hot water for showers. Some sort of mosquito repeller in the main lounge area would be awesome!!
Very friendly staff here, helping out with tour bookings. Dorms were clean and a great location in the old city centre
We stayed in a three person private. It was simply amazing! Best room we have stayed in so far. Be sure to bring some earplugs or the rooster will keep you up all night.
This place feels more like a camping than a hostel. There is a lot of stagnant water in the open-air area, which makes it filled with mosquitos during the night. The dorm windows are thin and consequently you hear all the neighborhood noises quite army in the morning.
We booked a family room for three persons, and it was better than we expected. Room was clean/big, with quite nice decorations. Only small problem was that water coming from the shower was small, but still acceptable. The owner was very polite and helpful. He drove us to the airport with very reasonable price, and saved us lots of trouble. We will definitely come back in our next trip.
Calm, quiet place, but still walking distance from main attractions of the town. Nice and helpful staff. Overall: simple, but good, not lacking anything.
Super nice staff! Super clean bathrooms! Hot showers...if you turn the lever correctly...all the way means COLD water! Rooms need to be swept daily though. Nice comon area but can be hard to engage with people. Be nice if host could provide activities available if people decide to stay in...like cards, board games, volleyball, Frisbee etc..
This is my second time at Gongkaew. Ererything is even better. We stayed at deluxe rooms in the new building. Room is bigger and newer. Quiet at night and no mosquito. Good money value.

Lovely quiet spot with a pretty garden and helpful staff. Free tea and toast all day, such a nice atmosphere. It's tucked away on a quiet side street so you have to walk a bit for most shops/bars etc.
