Wonderful place. Great ambience in the garden area where you can get drinks and great food. Good value for money.
I liked it. I will go back if I go to Chiangmai next time.
Gong Kaew Home treated us extremely well. It is an excellent place to hang out; the architecture and common area both were really great. The staff was quite helpful and fairly present. Our room was super clean and felt very new (because it was). The location is fine if you are okay with walking; otherwise, it is easy to get a tuk tuk or hop into a truck. Sweet place. Would definitely stay here again...although someone needs to kill the rooster that provides the 5:00 a.m. wake-up call every morn.
Staff was new in the city at the time we visited so they didn't have much insights or information regarding the city for us, but was always happy to make an effort and find things out. It's clean but you'll have to specifically ask to have your towels changed if you are staying for a longer period. They have no safe deposit in the rooms but there are lockers outside. Location is good too, in the north-western corner of the old city which you can visit on foot easily :)
The staff is phenomenal!!! If you can afford it stay in one of the private rooms with ac it's awesome!!The facility is lacking a touch everywhere else. Needs better hot water for showers. Some sort of mosquito repeller in the main lounge area would be awesome!!
Very friendly staff here, helping out with tour bookings. Dorms were clean and a great location in the old city centre
We stayed in a three person private. It was simply amazing! Best room we have stayed in so far. Be sure to bring some earplugs or the rooster will keep you up all night.
This place feels more like a camping than a hostel. There is a lot of stagnant water in the open-air area, which makes it filled with mosquitos during the night. The dorm windows are thin and consequently you hear all the neighborhood noises quite army in the morning.
We booked a family room for three persons, and it was better than we expected. Room was clean/big, with quite nice decorations. Only small problem was that water coming from the shower was small, but still acceptable. The owner was very polite and helpful. He drove us to the airport with very reasonable price, and saved us lots of trouble. We will definitely come back in our next trip.
Calm, quiet place, but still walking distance from main attractions of the town. Nice and helpful staff. Overall: simple, but good, not lacking anything.
Super nice staff! Super clean bathrooms! Hot showers...if you turn the lever correctly...all the way means COLD water! Rooms need to be swept daily though. Nice comon area but can be hard to engage with people. Be nice if host could provide activities available if people decide to stay in...like cards, board games, volleyball, Frisbee etc..
This is my second time at Gongkaew. Ererything is even better. We stayed at deluxe rooms in the new building. Room is bigger and newer. Quiet at night and no mosquito. Good money value.

Lovely quiet spot with a pretty garden and helpful staff. Free tea and toast all day, such a nice atmosphere. It's tucked away on a quiet side street so you have to walk a bit for most shops/bars etc.
I loved this place. Far enough away to be quiet, but not a far walk if you don't mind putting your feet on the ground. The staff was really nice and helpful, and the rooms were great. We had a room in their new building, and it was perfect. The grounds were amazing too, with fruit trees all over, and a friendly and inviting common area. Highly recommended.
We stayed in the group dorm at Gongkaew. Everyone in our dorm was pleasant and well behaved. I really liked the atmosphere at Gongkaew. They had free toast, tea, and coffee in their common area. They also rent bicycles (50 baht a day) and scooters (200 baht a day) as of Jan. 2015. Everything about the establishment was pleasant, however, if you want to stay in walking distance to the busier area of Chang Mai and the Night Bazaar I would stay somewhere else.
