Hotel is currently being renovated (feb '15) and it's clear why it needs it. Very old building with very dodgy sounding lift. You can hear the plumbing work whenever anyone on your floor has a shower or uses their basin. Sheets aren't changed as part of room service. Bed was very comfortable. Bathroom is nice and new. Hallways look/smell musty and dirty, could benefit from new carpet. Staff are helpful but generic. Very easy walk to market st/restaurants/shops/trains.

Hotel not new (partly under renovation in Dec. 2014) but very good cleaning everyday. Sheets etc very clean. Mattress too soft for our taste but ok. Different staff everyday, but the ones we dealt with at arrival and departure were very nice and very helpful. Very good location, in Chinatown, not far from North Beach; easy access to subways (for aeroport) and buses. Our room, facing Grant Ave., was not noisy at night (ok during day). As a kind of old-style relatively cheap hotel, I recommand.

Really enjoyed our stay at the Grant Plaza. Location was excellent and room had a fantastic view and was cleaned daily. My only request would be for a safe in the room for valuables but other than that I highly recommend this hotel for your San Francisco stay!

This was the first time I've booked a HOTEL rather than a HOSTEL through hostelworld. It was a nice change. This is a small, quiet hotel located right in heart of Chinatown. It's a bit of a hike up the hill from the BART station. The room was a bit small and spartian, but the bed was very comfortable! The room was an inside facing room, so was somewhat cold. Not sure if they had centralised heating, there was a heater in my room, but I'm not sure if it was working. A nice place to stay.

The sheets were not clean as I found pieces of hair and such on them, so I slept on top of the bed. I just felt an overall feeling of dirtiness from the room because of that.

Hotel should have more deals for its residents especially in the heart of Chinatown, not just refer to one eatery. Some dirty spots inside room - yuck. Thin walls mean you can hear noises during the night. I did not mind the small room and lack of amenities. Overall, great value for that price.

Nice location. The bedrooms are very small, but worth the low price. I thought the place a bit too nosy.

Very happy to have stayed in this hotel with excellent room comfort although room size a bit small. Located in Chinatown area of San Francisco and very convenient access to public transport and tourist attraction places.

Unfortunately the heat and noise isolation is very poor. Even in summer nights can be cold in the rooms and there is little difference in the noise from the streets your hear when the window is open or closed. Furthermore, the bed are really to short for the people of this century.

The staff was very friendly and helpful. The twin bed room was not very spacious, with a window to a light well. A microwave and a refrigator would come in handy too. Otherwise it was a nice and quiet place to stay close to everything. thnx. marcel from slovakia.

The hostel is in Chinatown, one block from the gates. Very convenient for what I was looking for. The room was clean, bathroom had a hair dyer. There was mildew on the walls of the bathroom, but for the price, that is something easy to overlook. The staff was helpful and courteous. WiFi Internet connection was not reliable unless in the lobby. But once again, for the price....

any reasonable short-coming from this hotel is dramatically offset by the location and price.

Very nice for the money, but it is a little basic for some. Beds are not great and rooms are quite small. But location is almost unbeatable, in Chinatown!

I would stay again. Great/Fun desk staff that knew the local areas

Major problems upon check-in. Credit card reader wasn't functional, and the staff member seemed utterly unwilling to be flexible in such a circumstance, even though I was in an extremely late check-in with the need to quickly get to sleep.
