We only stayed here for 1 night to catch the ferry to Yakushima. For this, the location is great, just 5 minutes away from the ferry. The room (double) was nice with our own balcony, but the hostel lacks character. Not many people, no atmosphere. The staff speaks no english. (at least 1 guy we spoke to). Not very clean. But ok to stay here if you're here for just 1 night.

Very good value for the money. We stayed in two two-person rooms. One room has bunk beds, other one is traditional Japanese sleeping on the floor style. The traditional one smelled quite like hay, but I guess that you cannot avoid it. WiFi signal was very good.

The location is great if you're taking an early ferry, and the beds are built like capsules which is nice and private, but the futons are not very comfortable. The staff were less than helpful and made it seem it was a hassle to answer questions and wanted to get right back to sitting on their computers. The overall atmosphere of the hostel was unfriendly and unwelcoming, as well as needing a little work...the tap in the kitchen came off, spraying water everywhere :O

We stayed here one night before taking a ferry to Yakushima for 5 days. Then we stayed an additional night on the way back from Yakushima. The first night, only one other girl was staying at the hostel. The second night was busier because it was during golden week, but the same the girl was still there. She hung out in the kitchen a lot, flicking her fingers and playing with her hands. It was odd. She seemed to be one of possibly several "long term residents."

This guest house is located in a convenient place. However, the noise coming from the road close to it is horrible : i couldn't sleep without earplugs after 5am. In addition, my bed trembled each time a truck passed. The price is however extremely low for Japan, so i would recommend it for budget-concious travelers.

There are not many hostels in the main Kagoshima city area, but this hostel is in a convenient location to the Ferry to Sakurajima (where you can hike and bike around the island). About a 10 minute walk from the downtown area and a 10 minute cab ride to the main station, Kagoshima-Chuo Station. Room was non-smoking but the entire floor smelled of smoke, and it was really hard to breathe. Staff is very friendly and helpful.

A nice, quiet hostel close to the ferry ports.

Nice: laundry, safe, TV-Room, Wifi-access, curtains at the beds, helpful and friendly staff. Not nice: dirty kitchen, WiFi doesn't reach until the 3th and 4th floor.

Thank you for staying at Green Guest House. We researched about our wi-fi. Relay instrument in 3rd floor which received the wireless from 1st floor was not working well. We solved to fix this instrument. Now the guests can connect to the internet comfortably. We were sorry for inconvenience. Hope to see you again.

This was a great place to stay. Good facilities and kitchen, with the option to have a meal with the management at low cost. The capsule type beds in the dorm were very good, giving a lot more personal space and privacy. Ten minutes walk from the ferry to Sakurajima.

The rooftop was a great place to wake up with a can of coffee and watch Sakurajima erupt! Our room was really nice, simple, but with a small balcony to sit out on, and pretty comfortable futons.... The lounge area was cool, felt quite at home chatting to other guests over a beer late in the day... Best thing was probably the location - 5/10 minutes on foot from the ferry terminals, or the Tenmonkan district for dinner etc, and even the highway/airport bus stop. Overall great value, we'd go back!

Good hostel ! Even if the view on the Sakurajima in not really like on the picture because of a big storage building blocking the view, and even if the building is shaking a bit with the traffic... He is close to all the main spots of the city (Tenmonkan, ferry terminal...) and offers some good facilities (kitchen, living room). And the price is reasonable.

The hostel was well situated and had overall good facilities. However, the room could have been cleaner (the laundry of some guests spread all over the room to dry was particularly bothersome to me!!!) and the futon mattresses were awfully thin. Still well worth the 1500 yen a night!

Kagoshima is such a nice city and the view of the active volcano Sakurajima is breathtaking. Green Guest House has a great location, close to the ferry-terminal and the main shopping- and entertainment-district. The facilities are great and the hostel has a nice lounge on the first floor. It’s also the cheapest hostel I stayed at on this trip in Japan. The staff is great, though lacking a bit in English skills.
