There are plenty activities here : live bands music , games , nightlife activities. The room (6-mixed dorm) and shower are quite clean. The staffs are friendly and tell you everything that you need to know for stay in hostel clearly. This hostel is not friendly for travelers who have big luggage because the hostel didn't provide any elevators to help you lifting you luggage.

Great stay - but bring ear plugs. Luckily people in our room were all super respectful and quiet.

This was my first hostel and was recommended by friends of mine and I totally understand why. I had such a great time at the Green Tortoise. Its location is perfect but most of all the atmosphere and free dinners and breakfast as well as bar crawls were perfect for an individual traveller like myself to make friends. I met so many great people and I know everyone else thought it was an awesome hostel. If I ever return to SF I will stay here.

Best hostel I've stayed in. Really comfortable rooms, sturdy comfortable beds, great tours, really nice free vego dinners on Mon, Wed and Fridays, good events organised. I encourage everyone to go on a Green Tortoise bus tour - the back half of the bus is a giant mattress - really fun and social. The area around the hostel looks to be the red light district (loads of strip joints) but I never had any problems there. Lots of stairs, which may not suit some folks.

What a great hostel! Thanks for the free meals, the clean bathrooms, the event offerings, and your smiles! I will be back, hopefully to stay longer!

Nice location in North Beach, clean rooms/bathrooms, helpful staff. They have awesome activities to do in the evenings from pub crawls to cheap local restaurants. The kitchen for me was the best thing about this hostel. Its pretty big, and has everything you need.

If you are looking for a place where you can go walking for the main sightseeings and in the middle of everything that's happening in SanFran, that's the place! I really liked the location and the staff, and despite the building is a little old, the bathrooms are really clean and the environment is excellent. I rightly recommended

Free breakfast and free dinner three nights a week is a great component. Great beds, could use more showers and toilets however, quite a large hostel which takes away from the atmosphere to an extent, however one of the better larger hostels I have stayed at and seems expensive but with the free food it is a good stay. Well set up hostel.

I usually try to stay away from the big "party hostels," but I really enjoyed my stay here. The planned social activities were great, and made it easy to meet other travelers. The free dinners every couple of nights were also a nice touch given how expensive San Fran is. The only negative that comes to mind is the bathroom situation - it can be tough to find an open shower in the morning unless you wake up extra earlier or wait for the check-out time rush to pass.

Except for the first night when there was no hot water for the shower (at midnight) and drunk people that we had to share a room with (I suspect that's not the hostel's fault though) it was a great place to stay. Breakfast was good too!

The Green Tortoise is awesome! The staff will help you get the most out of your stay in the bay and they really care about the hostel community. The common room is a great space and free breakfast is always a plus. They seem like a great place for international travelers to stay because they have their own computers for internet use (not sure if free or not). The location is great for night life! Keep on doing what you're doing Green Tortoise people :)

One of the best hostels I have every stayed. Great location in between Fisherman's Wharf and Union Square and next to China Town. Just around the corner is a sweet little street with restaurants. The beds are nice, there are enough shared bathrooms and breakfast is superb. However, I liked the laid back hippie vibe and shared activities best. A definite recommendation!
