Had a great 5 night stay here in the Green Tortoise. The hostel provides free breakfast each day & dinner 2 nights a week, there are free walking tours and all the staff are friendly and helpful. The location next to Pike Place Market is ideal and is within walking distance of anywhere you need to visit. Would definitely return here!

amazing staff, were very accommodating and helpful when I ran into problems during the check in process. Really fun hostel with a good mix of young party folks and older people just looking for an affordable place to stay. Great events too, such as free dinners some nights of the week, and day trips to nearby attractions.

Probably the best hostel in USA, they actually care about making it a sociable place for backpackers. The place is in the best location, and they have lots of neat perks: breakfast you can make yourself, free dinner every other night, planned activities, loads of common room space, a sociable smoking room. The place is super clean and has great facilities. Staff can be hit and miss with friendliness and helpfulness but other than that, can't fault the place.

Green tortoise was a great place for my 2 night stay in Seattle. Super close to pikes place market, a walk to space needle / emp museum and a short walk up to capital hill for nightlife, would definitely stay here again and recommend others stay here. Inside smoking room is a plus, saves you heading out onto the street and always interesting people to meet!

By European standards it's not great, but for a US hostel it's decent. Using the bathrooms/showers between 8 and 10am is impossible. There's no option to be in a female dorm which I disliked - assault is a very real threat for women traveling alone. I was in a room with 5 guys I didn't know. They don't wash the pillows. The location is the best you can get in the city, though it's a little loud at night (they have earplugs). Do the free market and 101 tours on Saturday morning!

Great location, helpful and friendly staff. Hostel is very safe and secure and there are amazing functions available daily (though we didn't get to try any). Highly recommended!

I Loved the location of the Green Tortoise, being so close to the Pike place market made it really interesting. The fact that you can cook is really cool, as there is fresh vegetables just there across the road ! As i discovered eating out is not cheap so you would save alot of money. The layout is nice and i am especially impressed that they offer activities such as walks and scenic tours if you are around for a few days . Really nice staff, love the whole relationship it has to the bus tours.

I wish I stayed there longer!

The wifi into the dorm rooms was patchy and often did not connect. This might need to be looked at. Thanks

From the moment I first approached the front desk until I left the staff was spot on! The location is great for walking around Pike Place Market and the surrounding Seattle tourist spots. Keycard access to the hostel after hours and to individual rooms made it feel a bit like a regular hotel as far as security goes AND the breakfast!!! Would absolutely stay here again.

Only minor gripe is that the rooms are small, so having 8 people plus luggage can get claustrophobic. Privacy curtains on beds def help with that, though. Could not ask for a better location, assuming you're looking for downtown. Staff are all super nice, all is very clean, comfy beds, nice showers. Free pancakes & eggs breakfast vs usual hostel toast n' coffee, plus dinner 3x/week, is awesome for us broke-ass travelers. Bit louder/younger than some other hostels in area, but not obnoxious.

Great location - right next to Pikes Place and downtown. Only real downside that I would point out, at least with some of the rooms, was the street noise that wafts up till the wee hours. If you can deal with that, then this is your best option. Other hostels exist, however, which are quieter, and only a short bus ride away. But all in all, this is a great deal for the money.

Have stayed at the Green Tortoise in both Seattle and San Fran, and I love them both. Staff are always great, atmosphere is right, and locations are perfect.

Great place to stay and right across from Pike Place Market. I enjoyed the pub crawl and the free dinner was actually really good!
