They were wonderfully accommodating and very nicely located. I would definitely visit them again if I ever get the chance to come back to Kyoto!
This is a traditional home stay. It's quiet and cozy, so expect to get to know the others staying there and the owner who is the sweetest man. There's minimal privacy, but the beds do have curtains. It's pretty strict on noise so don't go here if you're looking to be rowdy. Overall, we had a great experience here!
Great place and in terms of house rules and facilities very Japanese. it makes for a great cultural experience to stay there. You just have to move super slow and carefully at night yo avoid noise and also the common room was quite cold.
Would definitely stay at here again when in Kyoto! Nori-san was a wonderful host and did a great job providing information / helpful hints. He also created a great communal area! Things to note, if you're going to stay here: 1) This is not a hostel, it is a guesthouse. This means that it is small and you are staying in someone's home. If you're looking for the large party hostel, this isn't it. 2) It is a traditional Japanese home, so it is very very cold in the winter and hot in the summer.
We were stuck by the snow in that late evening, unable to send an email or in any way notify the hostel that we were lost and would come really late. Fortunately the staff waited till we arrived and helped us cleaned ourselves and our luggage, kept us warm, and introduced us to others travelers in the common room. It's a cozy, warm place with clean bathrooms (shampoo and showered gel provided) and soft, comfortable beds which allow travelers to get full rest.
