I had a blast staying at Guest House Kura. It's got a great vibe to the place, very Japanese with the tatami mats. The lockers are especially cool and rustic. My first night there, I got to taste the host's delicious Sri Lankan curry. If you stay at this place, try it! When I needed to figuring out what to do/visit in the Nagano area, the hosts where super helpful! Don't be afraid to ask them any questions. My only gripe with the place is it's a little out of the way from Nagano.

Was a very nice Japanese home type experience, & Marina was SOOOO nice & sweet! Kitchen was WELL equipped & there was a washer/ dryer. Keep in mind you are staying in a Japanese home, so the walls are literally paper doors= not a ton of privacy between neighbors. Location good if you go to Snow Monkey Park or day trip to Nagano or Matsumoto. However, if you want to go to Nagano for a few days in a row, not as convenient. Overall was a wonderful “cultural” experience, and what a WONDERFUL host!

Me and my friend had a great time at Guest House Kura, this was the first hostel we stayed at on our 3 week trip to Japan and was easily the most memorable. Marina and Sameera who run the place are extremely friendly and will jump at the chance to help in any way they can. The house is beautifully authentic baring one beautiful thing, the western style toilet with heated seat. There is something amazing about sitting on a heated toilet seat on a cold day. Friendly, homely and in a beautiful area

Kura is a great hostel with a lot of character. If you want to experience staying at a real traditional Japanese house you should make sure to stay here. The staff is very helpful and friendly and they have many ideas on how to spend your days. The location is good, close to Nagano, Onsen and snow monkey park. It is possible to do a day trip to Hakuba if you want. Finally, I loved the atmosphere in the common room where some great guitar players played during my stay!

Amazing stay. Friendly and hospitable owners. Went out of their way to make us comfortable and to see the sights without hitch. Will be back next year for sure!
