The owner of the hostel was very helpful in explaining the location, it's surroundings, and how to take the public transportation.

This ryokan is situated in a lovely quiet area although further out than expected from central Kyoto area but well worth the stay. Next to lovely temples and shrines in a suburban area giving one a real taste of everyday life in Kyoto. The owner is very welcoming and extremely helpful and generous. Enjoyed my stay very much and will definitely stay again. Domo arigato!

Spent a great week at Guesthouse Bon! The owner is very nice and helpful. The location next to the Temple Complex is perfect...quiet area and close to the main street and short walk to subway. Highly recommended if you're a laid back traveler that wants a simple, clean, and friendly spot.

Loved our stay with Taniguchi-san, such a lovely little place which was very homely, clean and relaxing. Provided us with the perfect Kyoto experience that we'll never forget. Must say though that it was more enjoyable as we had 5 nights there, so got a chance to really settle in to the area, take our time exploring etc.

The owner is very nice but this does not compensate for the lack of comfort of this hostel. You sleep on a very thin mattress on the floor, which is quite uncomfortable. Moreover, there is a fuel heater in the room that shuts down after 3 hours. So you need to wake up in the middle of the night to put it on again. The shower and bathroom are outside and this clearly not convenient when it is cold. I stayed in an other hostel in Kyoto for a cheaper price and a much better comfort.

Thank you very much for your comment. Please ask us If you want to have other mattress, We gave to 2 under mattress for every one, The heater which only 3hours is sorry, but If you are cold please ask us we will give other over futon for you. The old Kyoto house is no bath room in the house which mean we have a lot of public bath around here because The street of Kyoto is very small so fire car can not come into the small street that why you can see many public bath around here. the toilette also dose not small and sound inside of house which is good. But ,Yes it is cold. Please tell me which guesthouse is better than us, I still have to study how i do make better. Thanks again.and sorry for your stay at Bon.

I had an excellent stay at Guesthouse Bon. The owner took the time to sit and help me map out my stay in Kyoto by providing me with sites to visit and ways to get around the city. I would highly recommend Guesthouse Bon to those traveling to Kyoto.

The hostel is basically a Japanese traditional house, with tatami floor and sliding wood and paper doors. The kitchen and lounge room at first floor were really pleasant. Our room was a nice Japanese style bedroom. We appreciated the really intimate atmosphere and the kindness of the owner (he also drove us to the Golden pavilion temple on our first day!). Is kind of far from the station but easy to reach with bus. Definitely a place I recommend in Kyoto!

I loved staying here. The owner really went out of his way to make sure I had a good experience. The first day he sat me down and helped me figure out what I could do in Kyoto and how to get around using the bus. He was very nice and spoke English well. The location is a little far from downtown, but the bus stop is fairly close by. There are also temples close by that you can walk to. If I ever come back to Kyoto this is where I will stay again without question.

I had a lovely stay at Guesthouse Bon - mostly thanks to its great owner! Upon arrival he sat down with me and helped me tailor make an itinerary for my stay in Kyoto. I mostly biked and walked everywhere and wasn't bothered by the location, which is a little bit away from the center. It's about a 10 minute walk to the nearest metro station. i got provided a spacious room, and the hostel has good kitchen and bathroom facilities. Super friendly place - it felt like I was staying at someone's home

Guesthouse Bon was a great little place to stay in Kyoto! Bon's knowledge of Kyoto and all of the places to see, how to get there, which spots are the quietest and busiest, was incredible. Help is always easily found, facilities are good, but it is a little out of Kyoto main city. A highly recommended guesthouse! Thanks Bon!
