The room was tiny (some other rooms are bigger), and next to a very noisy street. The woman was quite unfriendly and doesn't speak english. It is not 20 min away on foot from the old town but 45 minutes. We spent two weeks travelling around the Balkans (Croatia, Montenegro, Serbia, etc.), this was the worst of our accomodations, definitely not a good value for money. But the location is convenient since it is directly in front of the main bus station.
We really enjoyed our stay at Guesthouse Gara. The owner is very sweet and personable! It is not a 25 minute walk to the city, but it is very close to three buses that run regularly and only take 10 minutes so the location was not an inconvenience for us. The wifi never worked for us and there were no cooking facilities, but a grocery store right across the street. It was also right across the street from the ferry terminal and bus terminal which was great for our arrival and departure.
Basically, we liked everything. The staff was so helpful and kind at any time. The beds and bathroom were very clean. If we ever come back to Dubrovnik that is the place where we'll sleep. Good choice!
