One of the bests in my trip to Japan, really nice location, very clean but the most important thing in there is the atmosphere. It was a family house before, so the old wood, the lighting and the smell made me fell really good The common room with the heated kotatsu ( japan style coffee table) was a great place to talk and meet some nice people. The staff were ultra-kind and helpful, i wish to go back there!

THIS PLACE IS PERFECTLY LOCATED MIDWAY BETWIXT KINTETSU NARA RAIL STATION, AND THE MAIN ATTRACTION, THE NARA-KOEN PARK. ARCADE WITH SHOPS AND RESTAURANT ARE ALSO CLOSE. THE BUILDING IS AN OLD JAPANESE HOUSE ALMOST RYOKAN LIKE WITH TATAMI CARPETS, LOW TABLE, SLIDE DOORS AND A FUTON AS WELL AS A GARDEN. KITCHEN AND COMMON AREAS GOOD. WIFI GOOD. ONLY DRAWBACK IS THAT IS WAS INCREDIBLY COLD INDOORS DAYTIME. IN THE EVENING THEY USED A HEATER AND NIGHT WAS OK - WE HAD THICK BLANKETS

The hosts were really nice and friendly. Room was clean. Mine was a private room and the setting n condition was classic. Really a 100+ year old house ambience. Quiet and peaceful. Would love to come again if i go Nara.

I think this is the best youth hostel that I've stayed at in Japan. The house itself is amazing - it used to belong to a tea-ceremony teacher and the garden and the layout is really nice. The common areas are spacious and nice also. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone traveling in Japan.

Wonderful hostel. It used to be the house of a former tea ceremony teacher. That is why there is a nice little Japanese garden to look at when you drink your free tea/coffee during the morning. The common room is designed like a Japanese living room. It has a nice Japanese feel for a low budget. Dorm rooms are ok. They have a kitchen and you can rent a bicycle (with very squeeky brakes).

In my opnion, if you want to spend a great time in Nara, this hostel (Guesthouse Nara Backpackers) would be a perfect choice. It’s location is favourable, as nearby the hostel located the Great Buddha, the Nara park – you can see deers everywhere all around – and Toudaji temple. Furthermore, if you intrested in the traditional japanese culture, arhitecture and arts as well, you can’t skip to visit this city. In addition to the people are extremely kind and open towards the foreigners. We were staying just

This was a great place to stay in Nara. The staff was very friendly, helpful and spoke good English. The house itself is over 100 years old and it has great character and a nice garden to view. We went when it was cold outside but we had a heater and electric blanket so the room was very nice and cozy. There is a fully equipped kitchen to use and computers. Very close to Nara Park too. Would go back there again :)

Great atmosphere, beautiful place, warm and comfortable. I would defiantly stay again! Only concern is the location. It was difficult to find. Maybe a large sign out front near the street could be useful.

Beautiful building and very friendly helpful staff. I found the dorm to be a bit chilly (it was snowing outside), but otherwise would totally recommend this spot to anyone looking for a quiet, relaxed, beautiful and friendly place, convenient for the sights.

We stayed here in January 2013, and it was a highlight of our trip to Japan. Takeshi and Mika were wonderful hosts, we felt very at home, and very privileged to stay in such a beautiful and historically special building... would definitely stay again and recommend to anyone.

Staffs there are pretty friendly, especially the girls who doing her part time job there. A very good public living room and kitchen where guests are able to communicate with others. I'm a solo traveler and get to know different people and able to make some friends in this Japanese style living room. Well, an ancient Japanese house, you cannot expect the facilities are modernized. But no worry with no supplement of hot water for shower, etc. Clean bed, toilet and washroom.
