The hostel is amazing, in a real machiya house, so if you want to try a traditional japanese house for a budget price, this is a great chance. However, and this is for me a big BUT, they do not turn on the AC, and in Nara in the summer it gets to 38 celsius, so at night it was about 30 in our room. the ac was set to 29 celsius for the night, which was useless and it was really hard to sleep in a closed room with many people at 30 degrees celsius. That is not acceptable.
Nara backpackers is a great place to stay. It is very comfortable, the staff are super friendly and helpful. The house itself is lovely and a great thing to experience, t is also right next to the park with all the historical sites. The beds are comfy and the showers are decent too. It is a good place to meet people as it is a very popular place to stay. I would stay there again and would reconmend it to others.
Beautiful sceanery. When I get there, I wanted to stay more days.

This hostel makes me like living in the past of Japan, the really traditional house giving different atmosphere from other guesthouse. If you are coming to Nara, living here will be a good choice, traditional house with nice and cute staff !
It was a beautiful house with comfortable lounges and all the amenities I needed, so near the Nara Park but a bit of a hike from the JR station. The staff were kind, friendly, and helpful, but didn't make much effort to introduce the guests or create a convivial, social atmosphere. They're serious about lights-out in the common room and kitchen after 11, and check-out is fairly early. Still, it was a really pleasant place to stay in Nara.
What a lovely guesthouse. The staff were really nice and helpful. It was a really old style Japanese house but with a modern flavour. Our private room was beautiful. The free coffee and stuff was a really nice touch. Good wifi too. Close to anything you need in Nara. Less than a 5 min walk from the KintetsuNara station.
Great hostel with a beautiful and origianl Japanese style. Sign at the entrance should be somewhat bigger, everything else is perfect!
To hot in Nara! And this hostel doesn't have air conditioner in the rooms....
This place was absolutely awesome! Thank you so much for a nice time, for your hospitality and for everything!
Staff were extremely nice and considerate. There was an thunderstorm when i was out. They brought in all my clothes hanging on the balcony, folded them nicely on my bed.
Enjoyed our stay! Will recommend to our friends
Decent location but Nara is very small...I'm over 6foot so felt this house was build for people a lot smaller than me...understandable as its over 100 years old and this is Japan. That said my neck hurt after just one night here! Nice place overall
I love this place! The owners are great people and the building is so lovely. Formerly home to a teacher of tea ceremony the building wraps around a garden in a center courtyard. I could sit for days on the couch that overlooks the common room and garden. I have stayed here twice and have never had an issue, there is no airconditioning if thats a problem. I always wish I could stay longer just to hang out and relax because the atmosphere is so great.
The room is too small and there is not enough light in the room. It turns out a bit dangerous and inconvenient while un-do the package in such a small and dark room. In additions, the room is hot. It seems like the hostel owner didn't want to lower the temperature of air-com, also the window was close and the bed was surrounded by curtains. There was no flowing air in the room; therefore, we had to ask several times to get the temperature we want every day, which was a bit inconvenient, esp
Beautiful hostel, greeted by beautiful staff. Very traditional experience for such a low price. Despite staying for one night only this is ample for Nara.
Great location and staff! Charming old house...but its old...some musty smell, etc. but good for one night, which is all you need in Nara.
Great location (2 minutes walking to the main turistical locations in Nara), beautiful house, great staff,... It´s simply, the best hostel where i´ve been. A thing, though: if you are tall, mind your head XD
Thanks for your hospitality and support everthing.
Unlike most hostels in Japan this is based in a traditional building with wooden floors, tatami mats and sliding doors. It is in an excellent location near to both the station and the sights in Nara. The staff were friendly and very helpful and all the facilities worked. Would recommend to anyone staying the night in Nara.
