The hostel was great and it's location even better!! Santa Monica has a lot going on, and it's a really nice part of LA. I was traveling alone and felt really safe in that area! The only thing that could be better are the showers-the pressure is pretty bad and they should get darker curtains. Other than that-perfect!!

Great! Super clean and professional. Great location and the wednesday night bar crawl was fun!! Only negative comment is the price, too expensive for a hostel!

The staff directed me to the wrong bus stop for a bus that I needed to catch to meet a friend. The 'no drink' rule is a joke. I spent the evening in the courtyard. There were some French guys drinking and being obnoxious. They were also smoking marijuana and it was blowing in my face. I went to complain, there was no-one on the front desk. - unacceptable. You need to have a manned desk at all times. You have a 'best staff member' competition? None of them for me, they should all be disqualified.

The internet connection is terrible. Surely this can be fixed so that it actualy works alot better than it does.

Very expensive!! By the time you add tax and non-membership fees you're looking at about $50 p/n. But if you want to stay in Santa Monica this is the only hostel around. My advice is that if you are travelling with someone stay in a cheap hotel instead because it will be cheaper. Free breakfast was average (cornflakes & small bagels) and they had lots of activities on display which looked good but they cancelled half of them. Is very clean but way to expensive for the budget traveller.

5 star hostel! Very clean, huge kitchen to cook in, excellent breakfast included, right in the heart of Santa Monica shopping area. Lots of common seating areas and organised activities. This was my second stay and Iwill definitely be back.

Be careful, hostel.com don\'t tell you that you have to pay more if you are not a member of H.I. and also, the prices are without taxes! So I was thinking it was cheap, but actually, I paid around 40 dollars a night. That\'s not that bad, but that\'s more than I was expected! Otherwise, the hostel is really good, clean, safe and friendly. :)

This was my first time ever staying at a hostel and it was fantastic. Excellent staff, comfy beds, and very safe. No complaints at all.

Great place to stay to avoid the hustle & bustle of downtown LA and enjoy the relaxed beach lifestyle that Santa Monica offers. Easy to book discounted tours from the shop next door and the $1 bus fare on the 'Big Blue Bus'#3 from LAX is a winner (about 40 min ride to just near the hostel). Staff were friendly and helpful and the hostel had different activities on each day/night of the week. There are homeless people that frequent the outside of the hostel, but I would not let this put you off.

The location in Santa Monica is excellent and facilities ok, but the hostel itself lacks character. It is more hotel like and the atmosphere is like that; no so much random chats with other than your room mates and people seem a bit distant. And not allowing to drink any alcohol in hostel premises is just stupid.

we booked in advanced to stay in the same doorm. As we arrived though, they put us in seperate doorms on different floors. It was an awkward situation for us. We also had to pay an additional fee, because we aren't HI-members. Nowhere on the hostelworld page does it clearly visible indicate that there is a HI-fee. And with the taxes we at our arrival it turn out to be much more expensive as we first though it's gonna be.

My only problem with the hostel was that the room was too bright, the curtains don't block the sun rays.

Tax is 14% and also there is a $3 charge each night you stay if you're not a IH member. Staff was helpful and it's a nice place. Really not much to do in Santa Monica though, and public transit to main LA sites is about 30-45 min.

One of the best hostels I've stayed at. Comfy beds and generous breakfast.

The staff was not very helpful especially with information what do to or where to go. The sink was full with hair, not very awesome.
