Just a quick visit but found the staff to be really friendly and helpful. It's what you would expect from a well run youth hostel. Absolutely no frills but somewhere that is clean and organised. Breakfast isn't the greatest .

The most redeeming feature of this hostel is the wonderful staff. They are all helpful, friendly - nothing was too much trouble and no question no going unanswered. The building facade is full of character. this is a wonderful hostel in a wonderful city!

impersonal, cold, and deeply lacking character. It was impossible to meet people and felt more like a hospital stay than at a hostel. The showers weren't warm enough and required you to press a buttom every five seconds. 11pm lockout with a new coded every day was annoying. No free wifi, and internet was grossly over priced. The breakfast certainly wwasn't worth getting up before 9.30 for. The location was good however, and the staff were friendly enough. I would no recommend staying here.

It´s a normal hostel, with a very good location and the staff is also very nice, they talk even in spanish!!;) I think rooms could be more welcoming. The breakfast is very good. It´s probably that I use the same hostel if I will be back to Gent.

The best thing of the hostel is it's location. Breakfast and anything else was good, cleanless also was well. There were only one bad thind that the heat was swiched off during the night and it was really cold to sleep. But that's ok if You have somethin to dress up)))

It is good value for money, if I were to chose a hostel in Gent again , definitely I would go to HI De Draecke. I rented a twin room, it was clean, quiet place and confortable, the only thing we conserned about was that showers did not have lock inside, but despite of that every thing was ok. The staff is very nice, kindly and helpfull.

I loved everything from the first moment, everything was perfect and everyone in the staff readily to help. Just One comment: i arrived to breakfast at 9:30 (they said they served between 8:00 to 9:30), and when i could reach a person in the kitchen it was 9:31 and she didn't give me any breakfast... She was very hostil and mean. I think this has no sense and is not coherent with the hostels' ambient. But I'm sure it was just this person in the kitchen, everything else was lovely....

Cost rather high for very basic accommodation. It was clean and friendly. 2 EU for 30min Wifi is a joke - as noted by other reviewers. Pleased I get 25MB per day for 2GBP with Vodafone so no need to use Wifi.

The hostel is at the central part of Ghent. The staff are very nice and helpful. It would be better if they provide lockers for free and free internet access.

Friendly staff and location is OK. Disadvantages are that the hostel doesn't have security lockers and check-out time is 10 AM.

Like some HI hostels I stay at, this one did not have much atmosphere. I was able to get there easily with the tram from the train station, and the staff booked me a 5am taxi which was great, as I needed to get to the airport. Plenty of material available on what to see and do in the city. OK place to rest your head, but wifi internet access should always be free, so any hostel without that gets an instant FAIL in my opinion.

Might be the best hostel in Ghent, I liked everything about it. The only real negative point I could make was that there were many rude elderly people there. They tried to cut me in line, the two times I was waiting at the reception. Furthermore I would say the unexpected deposits and towel payments make it just a but unnecessarily expensive. But that's all.

The hotel is a classic HI one, perfect for basic traveler needs, although facilities are a bit outdated. The location is awesome, although parking can be either tricky or expensive (like everywhere). The breakfast was actually one of the better ones I've seen in hostels and is included in the price (def a plus). The staff at the reception were absolutely friendly and helpful. (prompt reply to e-mail) Really one of the best value for money options when on a short visit with friends.

I really like the hostel. Its really really close to the city center, so it was soooo easy to get some stuff and the staff were so helpful and so friendly (they speak excellent english along with other european languages like german, french, dutch, spanish). I stayed there for 3 nights before I moved to my apartment and settled down in Ghent since I will study at the university. The staff always answered all my questions. I even asked them where I can buy a pillow and they showed me.

The people at the reception were extremely nice and helpful since I needed some help about the city all the time. The breakfast is good, it has its own little bar where you can meet other people. It is close to the free wifi zone of the city so you can go there and open your laptop on the street.

Nice location, could do with a kitchen and laundry facilities though. Rooms could really do with more plug sockets, one socket per 4 bed dorm really isnt enough when everyone wants to charge their camera\mobile.

Absolutely ridiculous to change the front door code every day, shouldn't have to remember to stop at reception every day to get the new code. Once every few days or once a week would be sufficient. Hostel was clean, breakfast was good and hostel was well located but apart from that it was an extremely unsociable hostel, wouldn't stay here again or recommend it to anyone. Luckily was travelling with a friend as not a great place to meet people as other hostels are.
