This is by most favorite hostel I have visited. Everything was perfect and I meet some very nice and interesting travelers while preparing and eating my meals. I will be stopping by again, I hope.

If, upon checking in, a traveler is asked: whether or not he snores?, those who answer in the affirmative could be consolidated into a designated room, so as to spare all others the possibly extreme agitation of having to endure such disturbance to THEIR rest. Yes, it did happen in the room that I stayed in.

A quieter atmosphere than most hostels I've been to. It was very low-key. Great kitchen if you want to cook, and a nice big common room. My only quip is that there were not ladders for the bunk beds, so I had to climb on the bed frame.

The manager at this hostel was the nicest and really helped me feel a home and welcome and like a human after a long trip there. I am very grateful for this place.

This was a great hostel. Facility was generally clean. Free pancakes for breakfast. Towels and sheets included. Only downside was the showers required (free) tokens which limit the length of your shower. Probably a good eco-friendly practice, but it sucks if the shower shuts off and you haven't finished rinsing. No alcohol allowed inside, so it's not much of a party hostel, but there are decent bars nearby. Overall, a great place to stay in Monterey.

The only reason for a drop to good in facilities, is because the bed I slept on had a HUGE soft hole in it (It was the only non-bunk bed in the sea lion room). I felt like I was sleeping in a hammock... Otherwise, the staff was friendly and easy to talk to, the kitchen, bathrooms, common area were all comfy, clean and felt like I was at home. I'll be coming back - just choosing a different bed next time :)

If you're looking for a fun hostel experience, that is not the place. Lots of rules that just kill any atempt to be happy. The public consists of more senior people, so no noise, no alcohol and so on. Also breakfast is only pancakes, you have to pay for coffee or tea. Finally, curefew from 1am is annoying...

People often prepare lots of food so you get to eat for free. Plus a very nice location.

Large, warm, inviting living area with lots of booths and round tables plus comfortable sofas. Kitchen is well equipped with crock pots and rice cookers.

Great common area to hang out in, and spacious kitchen for guest use. Convenient for Cannery Row and other attractions are close by. Would definitely recommend.
