HI-Ottawa Jail Hostel Reviews

Awesome staying in an old jail, feels like the real thing, especially when some old bint starts telling people off like she owns the place! Though saying this, I was glad that the music on the Friday went till 2am nice and loud to annoy her. Silly person aside, nice hostel with decent facilities and an excellent prisony feel. The brekky was good too, nice not to have to wash up my dishes for a change! Wi-fi worked well also, good hostel.

price was different on the internet where is hostelworld. it was more expensive than expect. I think it was sort of cheating. the website didn't show thatprise of no members.

Staff were really friendly and helpful, however bar was being renovated and none of the activities were on so it got a bit dull after a while. Building is really interesting and the tour of the jail was good!

Had a great time. Clean rooms and friendly staff. Breakfest sucked but I really cant ask for more, at least there WAS a breaky.

Staff were extremely helpful - cells are a little creepy but cosy when shared with others! Location is fantastic..

Good stay but disappointed the "hot" water was barely tepid and too cold for a shower.

Lots of hidden costs on arrival that were not mentioned in the information online. Increase any price by around ten dollars per person and you might be close. The hostel is a long way from the Greyhound station. Staff have little knowledge about anything.

I spend my time just for one night, but the stuff and the hostel generelly was very well. Ottawa is a great city and in the futher I would like to stay longer there. The only problem was the signs to find the hostel easy. I toke a car and got lost before I could find the right adress.

For the same price we could have stayed at econolodge. We were charged With a 5$ each fee On arrival. And parking was an extra 7$. So it was equal to getting a hotel with our own bathroom and fridge. It was a great location though, it was right across from rideu centre and around the coner from yum yum swarmama which is amazing. But if you don't have a car. And aren't going to u of Ottawa, then it isn't worth it

It is very nice place!!! It is well situated. It was nice to stay in a prison on halloween...

I stayed on the 6th floor and the lady's shower room was on the 4th floor so that was an inconvenience. I knew the hostel was going to look like a jail but it was much more jail-like than I expected so I got a little depressed being in a tiny jail. If you are on vacation it would be a fun experience but it was my work trip so I couldn't relax very much. Because it used to be a jail, the top and bottom part of the wall is opened so you can hear everything from the hallway through the night.

Funny place, great staff. Beds could have used a little less "character", though.

For character good. I did not get to do the 'jail tour' but the building is very real and eveything has been kept original..I guess only modern fixtures such as light and wash rooms have been modified. Security is good because they give u a pass code for the main door which can be given to outsiders if u wanted too do so but overal it was pretty decent.. LOCATION CANT BE BEAT simle as that. If u want to explore ottawa by foot this is where u need to stay.

Only one shower/toilet on the 9th floor could be a problem. There werent many people at the hostel when I was there so wasnt a problem for me but could potentially be. Other than that, nice place, great staff, couldnt ask for much more.

I had an awesome stay at the jail hostel. I didn't really hang out at the hostel because there was so much to do elsewhere. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The hostel is very easy to get to by public transit and is located in an amazing part of town close to basically everything a tourist would want to check out. I would recommend this place to anyone traveling to Ottawa.

While it was really cool being in the jail cells etc the novelty did wear off after the first 2-3 nights cos I gets really noisy and echoey.

Bedroom is clean, and the structure is interesting,

all good!!location,cleanliness,charater.is fun to stay there!!!the only bad thing is no free breakfast. and i will advise you to do the jail tour(at the desk they give 4 DOLLARS OFF)

So much fun staying in an old jail! Staff was friendly and rooms very spacious and clean. Great location, too!
