I would stay here again for sure, it felt safe and was close to everything necessary, also only a short walk from the station. It was decorated beautifully and everyone was friendly and helpful. I liked how events were organised for you. Only downside is that it was very cold and you're only given a thin sheet and blanket to sleep in, so I didn't get such great nights sleeps, so maybe this is a better place to stay during the summer months!

Although the location is not ideal (though still good) I can't recommend it highly enough. I received wonderful service and the best breakfast I have ever had at a hostel. Although the bed was a bit pricey given how many people were in the room, it really was a wonderful experience. I would definitely stay there again next time I am in Portland.

My first hostel experience, and it was awesome. A ton of fun people, clean and spacious accommodations, friendly and helpful staff, and perfect location. If you want to experience hostel life, this is the place to be!

I had a good stay. The staff were fantastic and helpful. You had to pay to use internet and there was only one computer which was a bit old school not to mention no TV. But there was fabulous fresh bread for breakfast and lockers in the room and the neighbourhood felt very safe. The pub crawl was also fun :)

everything is good.

The only aspect that I might quibble with is the bedding, owing principally to the 'sack' sheets: when I rolled over, especially in a top bunk, it tended to wrap around me and/or I'd lose the blanket which was rather past its prime; mattresses/springs likewise seemed ready for reassessment and might be priorities for upgrading, as other aspects of the hostel were top-notch. I encourage hostels to resist allowing their premises to become drinking refuges/venues and to discourage rude behavior.

This hostel blew me away, and I have been in hundreds of hostels throughout the world. The staff was great, very cooperative. The place was sparkling clean. Kitchen was great. Breakfasts were fantastic - great Portland coffee and artisinal breads, rolls and croisants with butter and jam. I met some very nice people and we entertained each other with our travel stories. Couldn't have had a better experience. Also nice: less than a mile to the downtown conference hotels. I enjoyed the walk.

Staff was helpful in finding restaurants for dinner and bars/clubs to go to, but we got in trouble for being loud while hanging out in the common area, which seemed a bit over zealous.

Expensive for a dorm bed, and the counter staff overcharged me upon arrival. I booked the bed for $26, and they charged me $27, plus they didn't give me credit for my 10% down that I paid upon booking. Other than that, it is a nice place with a nice staff and decent amenities, in a great neighborhood. I'll definitely stay there again, but I'll be careful to pay attention to what I am being charged. Unfortunately, I didn't notice the overcharge until after I left the next day.

By far the best HI I've ever stayed in. Good crowd and quite social. 4.blocks from 23rd st which is probably the best place to hang out in Portland. Don't miss happy hour at Bartini up the road!!

My first ever hostel experience. The building had a lot of character and the lite breakfast offering was really tasty. The comings and goings in the dorm room are a little noisy, so next stay I'll bring earplugs. I am very happy to have found an option for lodging that is less expensive than hotels and still feels safe for a woman traveling alone.

Some renovation is going on - it means that it will be improvements!!! I also see a lot of cleaning during my visit. But there were some negative aspects - not so nice smell on the second building entrance. I was for week and no any common activities (except Valentine day) in evenings. But most terrible was man who used to live with dog and walk with it everywhere, also in kitchen!

Owner Comment (Show)
Thank you for your feedback. We're proud to say that the re-carpeting is completed. It should be noted that the dog in the kitchen was a service dog. The American Disabilities Act requires that all businesses allow people with disabilities to bring their service animals onto business premises in whatever areas customers are generally allowed, otherwise we do not allow pets on the premises. Perhaps you can come back some time to check out our improvements and participate in some of our activities listed on our events calendar!

My stay here was great! I was glad to discover that this hostel was pretty low-key. I was able to get a good night's sleep, which I really appreciated!
