I only stayed for a night, but I can say that the location was very convenient, the staff was very helpful and the hostel had excellent opportunities for tired travellers to rest their feet for a night. They can also book an airport shuttle for you, which can come in pretty handy.

Was only there for one night but the hostel was fantastic with a great room and comfy bed no my girlfriend and I plus a great kitchen. Did the pub crawl which was heaps of fun as we met up with the other HI hostels and went to some great bars... Felt horrible the next day though..!!

The location is perfect and the rooms are what you expect from a hostel. Some of the staff is super helpful, others seem to have no clue and one hand doesn't know what the other is doing. A bit of a hassle but no reason not to stay there. Had a private bath but the shared bathrooms are weird (toilet flusher is the sink! No kidding!). All in all it's what you expect from a hostel and the location is very central and not too unsafe.

This is a fantastic hostel! Great location, rooms are fab, kitchen well equipped, wifi everywhere, and the staff are wonderful, super helpful, friendly, and cool. Definitely one of the best hostels I have stayed in. There were only a few things that could be improved: there's no freezer, the included breakfast could perhaps have been more healthy, perhaps with more fruit. You could only have one portion, which was often half a banana! Otherwise, fab. Staff especially were just great.

Great hostel! Nice folks inside. For safety, I went to the hostel via Market Street and Geary Street because I was warned about Ellis and O'Farrell Street and encountered no problems on Geary. Liked the security passes. Kitchen was awesome, fridges available but no freezers. Breakfast was bagels and fruit. Bring a lock to use the locker! There was a 3$ fee (being a member of hostel international or something?) that caught me off guard - but not a big deal in the grand scheme of things.

Overall a really nice hostel, big rooms that are well cleaned and with security lockers, might be that the room fee is a little bit too pricy, but thats San Fran... Some people might complain about the location being surrounded by strange persons from the nearby tenderloin disctrict but I did never feel any discomfort regarding this. The localtion is awsome by being so close to everything downtown, plus for being so close to the BART train that goes to the airport!

Good location. Good breakfast. Rooms were clean though no character. Not that many restrooms for that many rooms

Central to everything, enthousiastic and very helpful staff, great kitchen! Free earplugs provided (no unnecessary luxury...). Clean and cosy. We only missed a rooftop dek to enjoy the evenings ;-)

I was having a good stay but unfortunately it only takes one unfriendly staff member to ruin this review. The girl at the frint desk on saturday april 20 2013 at 2am in the morning could not be more rude and offensive. She was having a bad night and took it out on us... Very unfortunate. I wish you guys selected your staff a little better. She clearly doesnt know what it takes to work in the industry. Im very disappointed, sorry but she made all of your staff and the hostel look really bad.

Only one outlet in the room. They should provide a power strip in each room. If they're worried about someone taking it with them, just charge a small deposit to ensure it stays in the room. Other then this issue, very nice stay.

good hostel, friendly helpful staff, nice free breakfast. wasn't super impressed by the extra fee for being a non member of the hostel even if only a couple of dollars

It's an old building and I get that you can't easily replace the elevator without stopping hostel operation altogether. Yet I wonder if there's any 'software solution' to make it function like.... a modern elevator capable of actually serving multiple floors in one go.
