This is a lovely hostel by the bay, literally. Great value for backpackers considering the high cost of living in San Francisco. Apparently there are a lot of locals staying there as well (and traveling seniors), which makes the atmosphere more diverse and interesting. You won't have a hard time finding interesting people to talk to or make friends with because the atmosphere is very warm and conductive. Staff are great and always helpful. Breakfasts and food from the cafe are delicious!

The place is great, highly recommendable. breakfast ok, the stuff is amazing, really good. The only thing is that they do not have plugs in the rooms to charge your phone or tablet. But you can in the lounge that it´s really comfortable.

Community breakfast was nice; I think that the front desk seemed to be overworked and very busy. Maybe more help is needed. Also, I would recommend expanding the resources for new visitors. Relying on the bus tours is expensive, and not very good. i found out that San Francisco Library has free walking tours all over the city, and that Muir Woods is available to reach by public transportation. My experience with the bus tours suggested by the brochure handed to me was overpriced and inadequate.

Amazing location in San Fran. Rooms a little old but the location makes up for it. Let us have a shower after we'd checked out and our run in the storm. Would recommend

Excellent Location

I was in a basement room with heating pipes running over head, so the room smelt musty all the time, we had to keep the window open constantly to stop the smell from building up. The showers had no where to get undressed privately except inside the shower. The location of the hostel is amazing but it is a long walk to get to anywhere interesting in the city. There were a lot of older people staying at this hostel who just wanted to get to bed early, so there wasn't much atmosphere.

Neat facilities (old fort) and great location. The cozy fireplace was a nice touch since it rained and it was a little chilly while I was there. Also the free jukebox and pool in the kitchen were another unique feature. There was a much older crowd than I am used to in hostels, but it just made for a more interesting community dynamic.

This probably in the best location of San Francisco w/ amazing views of Alcatraz & Golden Gate. At the opposite side it has excellent views of the Marina & downtown. Supermarket is 5 min., free breakfast (bread/bagels, fruit, coffee, juice, oatmeal, boiled egg for 75 cents). Lunch & dinner available for a reasonable price. Downside - some crazy people stay there & safety (many people lose their big valuables) so use lockers - never leave anything valuable unattended!!

This hostel is great if you're looking for a safe, quiet spot in San Francisco. (The only sound I heard at night was an owl hooting outside the window!) There are buses just around the corner that will take you straight to the city centre/main bus terminal, and Fisherman's Wharf is just a short walk down the road as the building is right on the coast. The kitchen is huge (and has a free jukebox), the cafe with the view is lovely, and there are lots of organised events to meet new people.

Just awesome! Great location at walking distance to the Golden Gate Bridge with a nice view over the bay and to Alcatraz. The beds are very comfortable and the breakfast with organic coffee and fruit as well as tasty bagels and oatmeal exceeded my expectations. I would definitely recommend this hostel to anyone who wants to enjoy a beautiful stay in San Francisco!

Bathrooms could use an update. Rooms were tight for a 4 bedroom dorm but the atmosphere and all the extras made it worth it!

A little walk from Pier 39 and Golden Gate but right by the water with views of the bridge and Alcatraz from the kitchen and cafe. Great breakfast, it includes bagel or toast, fruit, drinks and oatmeal. Kitchen is spacious too. Beds however were very uncomfortable. With a plastic (?) cover on the very soft mattress, the sheets kept coming off and turning on a plastic cover is uncomfortable and noisy.

Hostel was in the perfect location, could see the bridge from our window and also Alcatraz island. Within walking distance of the main bus and tram into the center of town. Very quiet hostel. Enjoyed our stay.

Great hostel close to the marina and fisherman's wharf area. Safe secure with a great staff! Thanks

Perfect location. Unbelievable though that there is only one place in the whole building to charge your electronics.

Great hostel in a central location. I enjoyed the friendly staff, cool atmosphere (in such an old building in the Fort!), and the free parking! Very social atmosphere and all the facilities you could want. The only issue we had was that our room was directly underneath the Cafe and each morning at 7am it was impossible to keep sleeping as the noise from above was so loud. Other than that, great place to stay!
