A bit of a hassle getting to and fro. Nice place, but seems to cater to school groups and elderly.

Unfortunately, someone in our room set their alarm for 4:30 am then hit snooze for 20 minutes later. It was incredibly loud and intrusive. Hope that doesn\'t happen often. LMD

The Hostel location is just perfect! The staff knows every place and explain you very clearly how to get there! You can take the bus #30 at a walking distance from the hostel that takes you to many touristic locations. I used this bus a lot to go to several places. There is a Safeway pretty close (5 minutes walking), and you can take the bus #28 that leaves you in front of the Golden Gate Bridge. If you have time, you can do a very nice walk to the Bridge as well, which is about 15 minutes.

I really liked the location of this hostel and my roommates were great. The only thing I didn't like is that there were too many middle-school aged children running around. There were 4 groups of middle-schoolers and Girl Scouts all together. Eating is not allowed in the rooms, but if you go into the kitchen there is no where to sit because it's like a school cafeteria. This facility needs to make up its mind: either its a place to stay for travelers or a vacation spot for young kids.

Great view of the bridge, great location..I like that it's surrounded by nature and the city buildings peak behind the tree tops in the distance. Hostel is clean, staff is knowledable and helpful. No bunk beds- locked boxes under each bed. The only thing i didn't like was that there was something in the room that gave me bad allergies- where it was a gusests dirty socks or they didn't vaccum under the bed- I don't know. But I would stay there again in a flash.

There is a lot of history to the Hostel in Fort Mason and it is good that the architecture has not been altered a great deal. It is basic and plain, like an army barracks, but that does not mean it is not comfortable. The common areas have excellent light and many have views of the Bay. There is a large park adjacent to the hostel and a relatively short walk to restaurants and tourist attractions. There is a in-house Cafe with good soups and sandwiches. I like this hostel and will return.

This was my second visit to Fort Mason, and enjoyed my stay. The staff is very friendly and informative about the local scene. The location is so unique and close to the waterfront with great vistas. Will be back

The sheets and bed smelled like BO. The staff were typical 20-somethings with hardly any data about San Francisco except what they read from various guidebooks. Plus they were pretty insensitive to differences in english language ability.

Fantastic location in park with great views and still close to restaurants bars etc. Private room was left dirty and with no sheets and when I mentioned this I was moved to a different room which was exactly the same. Staff were however very friendly and helpful. Breakfast good.

When my friend and i arrived to the hostel, the person at the front desk was not friendly and did not give us an introduction to the facility. we were handed a copy of the "rules" to read and sign and given our linens. We were not "welcomed" or told where the kitchen area, bathrooms, computers, etc were. The hostel advertised an Organic breakfast, this was not the case. the bagels/ waffles were store bought, no way of identifying if they were organic. You had to pay for fresh juice.

Great location, beautiful view, large common area, pretty good showers, cool cafe, and social events. However, I was disappointed overall because of the character and staff. I could feel the difference in this hostel as soon as I walked in. The girl working the front desk was very unfriendly when I arrived. With the exception of a couple staff members, I felt like I was bothering the hostel staff when I talked to them. Breakfast was organic-ish. For me, all of the "stuff" didn't make up it.

Good location right in Fort Mason, kitchen, lounge where all really good, poor bathrooms and very noisy radiator in the room, but recommended for a few nights
