Clean, friendly staff, great location, plenty secure (although bring your own lock, they charge $8). Anyone who has rated this Hostel poorly must have never stayed in a hostel before and was expecting a hotel.

Great home base for our weekend in Toronto. Great location in downtown, clean rooms with good climate control and a fine view, helpful staff, and excellent basement bar/cafe. I really couldn't ask for more in a hostel. We arrived by car from the USA and had no problem finding nearby parking.

unfortunally too loud music in the lounge, hardly could understand your own word! the atmosphare would be more pleasant,if it were a bit lower.

I was pleasantly surprised by this hostel. It seems quite new, and the staff seem to know their business very well. Would easily stay again.

We found HI Toronto to be pretty good value all up. The Cavern bar and Breakfast/Dinner service was fantastic, hipster and highly unique. Kitchen facilities also looked good. The room we had, a mixed 4 bed dorm between the four of us friends was small and a little uncleanly but nothing out of the ordinary. Bathroom connected to bedroom was a plus. HI Charges an extra 10 dollars per guest for non-members fyi. The events are discounted for members only. Could have done without some catty staff.

At times, it was a little smelly in the hallways to the rooms, I think because the kitchen is right under the lift.

Nice hostel with excellent location. The kitchen is good but they need more tables and fridges. The common areas are nice but the rooms need some work. The mattress was old and not so comfortable. One bathroom is not enough when there are eight women in the room. The sink and mirror are in the room instead of bathroom, which means people keep turning on lights on in the middle of the night to wash their hands.

When I have last minute trips to Toronto for business or shopping I stay here. I like the lounge with a pool table and the Cavern Restaurant. I can relax read the paper do my own thing or play pool.

GOOD: Staff friendly, very close to Toronto shops, gay scene, walkable to most attractions, niagara falls tour picks you up outside. Although its an extra cost, the evening food is great in the cafe downstairs... BAD: ... however, breakfast a little overpriced. Internet very slow. Bathrooms in need of modernization and cleaning. CONCLUSION: Great value for money, would defo stay there again on future trips.

Our stay this trip was fine. We arrive after midnight so all we did was sleep before checking out. We got a private for two which was spacious. I enjoyed that they gave us breakfast tickets (unlike the previous week...) get the traditional English breakfast but stay away from the French Toast!

Good location, short walk to subway, dundas square, waterfront and so on. Friendly staff and a lot of activities. Maybe it was just during my stay, but there was a lot of people who were staying longterm, while working, this made the hostel less sociable I felt, quiet on weekdays plus you feel like a bit of an outsider using the kitchen for example. Slightly strange. But I had a really good time in Toronto!

Receptionist was a little off with us, because she's French and we are English? I don't know, hope not! Lockers were good size, got 2 big backpacks in them, room was fine, nothing special, shower/toilet fine, nothing to report. The location was a little sketchy, Church Street is a little gheto but really not that bad, this is Toronto not London! The atmosphere was non existent but so far my experience in these City hostels don't have any! Overall I'd recommend, but check out The Clarance!!

I prized HI-Toronto most for its location. Everything is within walking distance and the walks are through beautiful neighborhoods. Lots of community space, but it is mostly filled with single travelers on their laptops wearing headphones. The bar downstairs is an interesting place, but not one I would spend much time in or any meals in. Best to explore the city more, especially St Lawrence Market which is just down the street !
