My brother & I came in from out of town for one night. We were very pleased with the hospitality of this hostel and the rooms were quite comfortable. They offered a complimentary breakfast which was good. I urge other travellers to stay here as its a great bang for your buck.

Seems like a nice hostel; however, we only stayed for one short night. No parking, but good location so if you're planning on choosing this hostel leave the car at home. The staff were able to help us with some key issues and give some general advice about parking.

It was great getting a breakfast, but there have definitly not been enough seats to sit down. I think this would be easy to improve.

The location is very central, rooms and bathrooms are basic and clean. Hostel is a bit noisy (mainly because of seagulls flying outside the building really early in the morning!). Breakfast room is too small for the amount of people in the hostel but breakfast itself is really great, loved it!

The location is perfect! Except for at night: that's when the homeless and drunks start roaming this particular street, but they aren't threatening. It's actually more annoying to have international youth smoking pot at the front door, which happened a lot when I was there. I decided to book 1 bed in a 2-bed dorm which turned out to be an excellent choice: it's cheaper than a private room and you only have to deal with 1 stranger. There were plenty of bathrooms on the floor and a good breakfast.

Excellent location, with good facilities and really friendly staff. Day storage for bags was secure and really helpful not having to cart things around all day.

I really enjoyed the free breakfast and the kitchen and lounch facilities. It was a pitty that the window in my room didn't close that well. The noice from the street and the cold were getting in.

This hostel was not very nice. The desk staff really didnt care if we were there or not and we were an inconvenience to them by asking them to do their job. The private room wasnt very nice and the en suite bathroom just had a sliding door to shut it and was incredibly tiny. The kitchen area was too small if you are offering breakfast to the whole hostel and made it very cramped and awkward in the mornings. Not in a very nice area either.

Cool place. Try to avoid a window bed on the Granville side. The kids are loud out there til pretty late. Good wifi, good bathrooms.

I booked the twin share room which provided plenty of space for two people. The WED night drinks with Ron was lots of fun, in fact there was something everyday that you can join on to which is a very nice way to meet other's. Very clean hostel with good breakfast, warm and secure also

The breakfast was pretty decent for a youth hostel. The private bathrooms/showers along the hallway were awesome since it was impossible to share one sink with three other travelers in my room. I didn't understand why the closet in the dorm room didn't have a light or a door. It would have been a convenient place to change clothes.

The staff are friendly and prompt to give help - regarding the hostel amenities, traveling around, all those little helpful hints. On my first day, I found my room terribly dim. I met a staff in the escalator on my way to dinner. He greeted me cheerfully. I told him the problem and he immediately replied he would fix it. When I was back again, it was just as bright as I had wished as he had changed all the light bulbs!. The tips staff provided were relevant and useful. I do appreciate it.

My stay at the Van-Central HI was AWESOME. I was unable to renew my YHA membership in Australia before I left, but the hostel had a deal going where I could get a years membership for $1.50 instead of $30! So I signed up &saved heaps with the members rates, AND they upgraded us to a room with it's own ensuite because they had some spare at the time! The room was lovely, it was just like staying in a motel. Free tea& coffee anytime & free breakfasts everyday, which were amazing. Highly recommend!
