very hard to find fault with this hostel.. i went into a hostel in the CBD for 3 days cos i had not booked enough days at habitat.. but i came back to habitat again when rooms were free! There's nothing they can do about people who snore so i'll have to knock off a few marks for that - Habitat should have found a cure by now!!! ;)

Excellent customer service. I had to make changes to my booking and they were extremely kind, considerate and professional. For the customer service and friendliness of the staff, I'd recommend this hostel 100%.

great hostel, be sure to get yourself a city map cos i found it hard to get out to St Kilda Road! free WiFi here which is great & good security with relatively large lockers under beds( just bring your own padlock) & luggage storage (secured by CCTV) on ground floor for your large backpacks if u wanna store them there.. large kitchen, possible downside is the kitchen is often very busy!! ( distance from CBD is also another possible negative but good buzz in St. Kilda anyway)

It's a bit always from main CBD area of Melbourne. Though the tram is close by and easy to get to center. Fairly decent but reasonable walk to nightlife of St.Kilda area. Overall a good plae to stay. It was a busy few days I was there. The only thingies wasn't to ecstatic about was my last night someone decided to bring another person back and romp it out. Shuttle is convenient, tours are as well with pickp drop off at hostel.

I was extremely happy that I chose to stay at Habitat HQ whilst in Melbourne. They had everything I needed and staff were always very helpful and friendly. Areas such as the showers and toilets were always very clean aswell, which I think is very important.

I found this hostel to be comfortable and very friendly. I was made to feel welcome by other visitors and staff alike even though most of them appeared to be about 20yrs my junior. Would reommend to others and be more than happy to stay again.

Awful. This isn't actually a bad hostel in terms of the building (modern, nice bathrooms & kitchen, free wifi)... however, the people in this hostel completely ruin it. I would never stay here again. 18 year old, messy travellers living in the rooms with their things spread out all over the floor and beds, to the point I had to move peoples things out of the way to open the bedroom door. Rooms were very cramped and its a long way from the CBD. Only plus was the aircon & free WIFI.

The hostel is excellent by it self but some in the staff, all the restrictions and rules made my experience there a bit dull. Don't get me wrong I loved the place but when you stay there as long as I did you just gets fed up with the negativity that comes from some of the staff. But overall a great place that you definitively should check out if your in St Kilda.

The staff were brilliant and very helpful. The atmosphere was good and very relaxed,. The only thing we had trouble was the wifi was temperamental. The kitchen, bathrooms, rooms were all up to date and very clean. The outdoor area was brilliant and the australia day BBQ was amazing. Best place we stayed in melbourne.

Extremely nice Hostel, located in St. Kilda where there is plenty to do. Only 3 blocks from the library, and a few more to restaurants and grocery stores. Hostel has free wifi, and the place is kept clean. The beds are really comfy, and the bathrooms are well maintained as well as the kitchen being kept clean. I enjoyed my stay, it was a little bit pricey, but it was a nice place. I had a great time there on Australia day, which the staff had a cooked food on the frill for us. I would recommend.

The hostel was fabulous for cleanliness and had a brilliant communal area. There were loads of different things arranged each night by the hostel and lots of info around for newbies. The main downside to the hostel was the cliques formed by the backpackers..... I felt that this was mostly the fault of the hostel and the way it was set up. new guests were moved into rooms with people who had been there for months. seating was grouped together aswell

This hostel was full of pretty girls, and that goes a long way for some of us travelling alone. It was a little like the inmates running the asylum there, but since I'm crazy as hell that suited me just fine. I wouldn't recommend it to older folks looking for a quiet night, but young folks with work visas fit in perfectly here.

10 dorm female: No lights above the bed and no security lockers only a heavy steel drawer. Very small room with nowhere to store things. Stale smelling and hot - no air conditioning. lights were on until 1-2am great if you want a party hostel. Fantastic secure parking area. Staff were unhelpful. In a bit of a dodgy dark area and difficult to find if you are a female on her own. Not close to the city of Melbourne. Watch out for tram times too if want to stay out late at night.
