Not the easiest place to find in the dark based on the online directions, but plenty of signs up in the streets indicating the way to go. Great view from the hostel, helpful, enthusiastic and knowledgable staff, who very kindly gave me a lift to the station on my check out day because of the weather. The nearby onsen, Yachigashira, is good too. For people coming here off the Shinkansen, remember, you need to get the local express from shin-Hakodate to Hakodate In order to get on the tram!

Definitely the nicest place I've stayed at in Japan (out of four in different cities). It's nice, clean, and reasonably priced. The only downside is the location, as the climb from the streetcar stop is a bit steep. On the other hand, it's just a short walk from there to Cape Tachimachi and one of the hiking routes to the mountain, or to the onsen, which is quite convenient. However, what really makes this place exceptional is staff - extremely nice and helpful!

Super cozy and friendly Guesthouse. Nearby there's a beautiful cape with great views of Hakodate bay and a great place to watch the sunset. Is a bit far from the city center, and a steep climb from the tram station, but otherwise is perfect in every way. Decided to book 2 more nights after staying there my first night.
