I worked in a hostel for over a year and have stayed in 54 hostels in the last 2 years. A hostel with great potential but in need of better houskeeping. Shower stopped working after taking forever to get hot. No staff attention until I asked to pay the next day. Decent location with a nice little cafe, but maintenace, housekeeping and general organization are all in dire need. Did not think it was worth saving $10

Unfortunately, not a good experience. Place is dirty, security is questionable. Was kept awake most of the two night's I was there by someone with a chronic cough.

I really enjoyed my stay at this hostel. The staff is great and always helpful. Its like coming into a big family. When I got there it wasnt really clean but it got better in the end. And the most important thing: the matraces are like heaven!

staff were great; friendly and hospitable! the place had lots of common room/enough bathrooms/kitchens, and I felt safe inside. cost seemed common. rooms and bathrooms could have been cleaner, just dirt/hair/etc on the floors, beds and furniture seemed clean. close to downtown and amenities but a sketchy neighbourhood; drunk people, fighting.

I absolutely loved my stay at Halifax Backpackers (2 and half months), the staff are the best, very helpful, friendly and go out of their way to make you feel welcome. Awesome atmosphere, clean facilities and great location. I walked home from work at all hours of the night/morning (6 days a week) and have always felt completely safe on Gottingen St. Oh and the cafe downstairs has the best coffee n food. Would not even consider staying anywhere else when or if I return to Halifax.

Well we only stayed there one night.. and that was fine. I don\'t think i could have handled much more. The rooms are tiny, you are packed in like sardines. The floor is so dusty.. if you wear bare feet they will be black in 2 minutes. The staff are very friendly though, and helpful which is always a plus. It don\'t think the location is the finest halifax has to offer. If you are spending more time in Halifax i would look elsewhere, but a couple of nights is bearable.

The location was all right, everything was within walking distance. The staff was friendly. Basically the hostel was clean but it could have been cleaner. For a short-term-stay the room and bed was ok, but there was a mouse in my room so I did not feel very comfortable! Summary: If you\'re looking for a cheap hostel for only a few nights it\'s ok!
