The staff were not rude, but they were definitely not friendly. all the other places I stayed in China, the staff were very helpful and made me feel like they didn't mind it when I asked for help, questions, things to translate and write down in Chinese. Whenever I asked someone for help, they behaved like they could not be bothered. They didn't bother to say anything when I checked out...not a goodbye, not a thank you, nothing. I would not stay here again as I felt very unwelcome. Poor service!
Great hostel; friendly helpful staff and good facilities.
Great facilities with a really cool outdoor area. Staff are helpfull and the place has a real friendly atmosphere. Stayed in the top floor garden room. Spacious and clean. Only downside was the joint drop toilet/shower that came with the garden room - although other rooms may differ. Overall had a good experience and would stay again.

We enjoyed the location and friendly staff, especially Anna who provided us very useful information wherever we asked her. The location is excellent - walking distance to popular attractions (Bell and Drum Tower, Mosque Square and old city wall). It is a very good hostel to enjoy Xi'an.
The staff was very friendly and helpful. Special thanks goes out to Fang Fang at the front desk who helped me with checking train and flight schedules to Hangzhou. She was able to call directly to book the airline ticket for me and got it for half of the cost I found online. Would definitely stay there again.
i enjoyed my stay at hantang inn hostel a lot. everything worke well and the staff was really friendly. only thing that bothered me was that the staff didn't seem to know much about the activity possibilities around XiAn. i tried to get some information from reception but only answer they gave me was the bus timetables... anyway, hantang inn has a really good map of XiAn which comes handy!
Great hostel - friendly helpful staff and good location. Lovely rooftop area. Good food.
Great location for walking around town and I enjoyed the roof-top garden.
The guide that they hire to take you to see the terra-cotta warriors was amazing! Her name is Zha zha, and she gave us excellent advice about who to avoid, how to save money, where to buy the Good jade at a great price and how not to get taken advantage of. She was terrific! The staff was terrific, and very helpful.
What an amazing hostel with great character and ambiance. The staff was extremely efficient, kind and helpful. It was a relaxing place to stay and very convenient location-wise. Would stay again in a heartbeat and will definitely reoommend it!

We booked 4 beds in a 4-bed dorm and the hostel was nice enough to keep us all in the same room. Bathrooms were clean with hair dryers available. Room was small and there were lots of noise from the streets but I guess that is expected of Shanghai. Location is excellent, 2 blocks away from the Bund and 4 blocks from Nanjing Rd and the metro. Also, there's a massage parlor right next door (highly recommended). Staff were nice and helpful. Helped booked seats for the acrobatic show.
I think the location was really good, and also I was really pleased with the independent lighting and plug on each bed - very handy.
We booked a 4-bed private for 2 nights but they were out of rooms on the first night. So the 4 of us were placed in a 6-bed room for the 1st night, and then moved to a 4-bed private for the 2nd night. Rooms were clean but had no wi-fi. Location is excellent (5 min from Muslim Quarter). Staff helpful and friendly. Offers tours to Terracotta Warriors, Han Yang Ling, etc at reasonable prices. Be aware that Xian traffic is horrific and catching a cab from the hostel was not easy at all.
staff were excellent, extremely helpful and very friendly. The bed was great but the pillows were uncomfortable. I agree with some other reviewers that the light in the bathroom is much to dim, it made shaving difficult. Overall an excellent place to stay.
Spent 4 days at the hostel. Very friendly and helpful staff with a nice atmosphere. Located right in the heart of the city and accessible. Had a wonderful time there, highly recommended.
Very well decorated common room (if a bit dim). Dorm was decent, lockers in the room. Bathroom was stinky. Close to metro and several buses. The staff was somewhat helpful, changed all the time. There were maybe 2-3 that spoke/understood enough English to help you immediately. We booked a taxi for a day thru them. They said it would cover parking but the driver paid no parking fees. They refused to give us a refund for any amount and just said sorry. Book your own independently! Not thru them!
The dorm rooms were TINY! Our 6 bed dorm should only have been a 4 bed at most. There was no room for all of our luggage with 2 guys sleeping with their bags on their beds. The bathroom was not cleaned well with the shower curtain covered in black mould. Having said this the hostel was located near to the Muslim Quarter and did have a cool roof terrace. Also the atmosphere was relaxed and we did enjoy our stay. Perhaps a private room would be better.
- The highlight for us was the roof top terrace and the general atmosphere everywhere in the hostel. - The staff was very nice and very helpful but one thing to improve would be in regards of general instructions or informations. We were wrongly informed by the staff for the directions to the Huashang Mountain and also not informed that Taxi's could not come to hostel. Almost missed our flight on departure day. - I would try to improve on the breakfast. The omelets were good though!
Am getting spoilt with all the nice and functional hostels in China. Han Tang Inn is absolutely fine, but not as outstanding as some. The ground floor dorm was dark and a bit small. It required coordination if all guests were moving around at the same time. I am not a fan of ensuite bathrooms in dorms. I prefer larger general ones where you can take your time. Nice restaurant/reception area on the ground floor though and a lovely rooftop garden.
