Hanakiya is an older & not overly luxurious inn near Kiyomisu & the old wooden fronted streets of Sennenzaka & Ninnenzaka with their atmospheric stairs, shrines, shops & food stalls. We love staying there .Since this whole area services the shrine, it closes down by 6pm. Be prepared to find restaurants etc. elsewhere after this time. The proprietress & her family are warm and welcoming. Eimi is bubbly & warm with great knowledge of Kyoto & is always available for help & directions or a chat.

I had a wonderful stay at Hanakiya Inn. TheHost Eimisan and her family were very nice and it was always a pleasure return to the home. It's also in a very excellent positions for sightseeing. The best thing about Hanakiya Inn is that it makes you really feel welcome and at home.

Our room was a standard Japanese room with 6 mats, normal size for a Japanese tatami room, and had a small outside room where we could keep our suitcases and hang laundry. There was a heater/AC with individual control. The futons were comfortable and we were all warm enough. There was a great shower, two toilet rooms, and a large set of sinks. Our hostess did a load of laundry for us for a small fee. She had lots of info available and was always available to hang out with us. Fun friendly place.

A great place for all who wants to stay in a typical Japanese ryokan. The house is very clean and the rooms are large. The landlady is extremely friendly and eager to help. Located very near to one of the most famous temples it is an excellent starting point for sightseeing. It can be a bit noise by night as the house is not far from teh main street.
