Very typical japanese hostel. We enjoyed every second we spent there. The keeper is very nice and sympathetic. We had a great time there.

Charming place and Eimi is ever so delightfully friendly with a smile and helpful with info. Strategically good place bottom of the main attraction Kimerzedura (sic) temple. Crowds flock here Nov for changes to autumn colour.

What a great place to stay! The location is perfect (Higashiyama) and the owner is a sweet woman who makes you feel right at home. She even called my cell phone after we checked out to thank us for staying at Hanakiya. We stayed in a private room in the annex building, which was lovely. Although the place isn't particularly fancy or large, the location, price, and service makes Hanakiya Inn the perfect place to stay in Kyoto.
