I booked for two nights and left after 1. If you want to party hard and feel like you are living in a college frat dorm, this is the place for you. Otherwise it is loud and the staff is more into the party than being helpful. Couldn't even hear what they were saying to me as I checked in. The locker under my bed didn't lock either and you had to pay a large deposit to rent a towel. Not my type of place.
The guests has to except the fact that this is a party hostel with mindless backpackers who care for nothing else but drinking and hanging out with the opposite gender. The hostel is extremely loud and the smoke from outside is everywhere inside. The food is very good and so is the included breakfast. Yes it is cheap but the dorms are too big.

We were booked into a double room - not worth $50 that they had quoted. Luckily there was a mix up with our booking meaning we were at downtown through error not choice so paid the 'original' rate. The staff pretended to be helpful, but actually had lied to us. Not cool. The atmosphere was amazing, but pretentious. So if you have brought a bag of make up, great. If you want laid back backpacker, not for you. Fair priced food
Really nice clean hostel. Free walking tour of the old quarter each morning. Helpful staff. Good food though expensive. Comfy beds (which is a rarity in hostels in south east Asia!!)
The hostel is very clean and great location. It is a BIG party hostel and if you are looking to drink all the time it is great, however if you are looking for a more calm atmosphere perhaps this isn't the best option.
One of the best places I've stayed in throughout the world! Castaways tour is a must for everyone staying here! This place has events every night throughout the week. Live music, free beer, quiz night, bar crawls. The staff are so helpful with English speaking staff with local knowledge. Really nice and inexpensive food. I would 100% return to downtown backpackers, I really do not want to leave. EVER.
Great hostel. Very busy and mad downstairs but the rooms and new and spotless upstairs so you can get away from it if you like. it is a very social hostel.
they gave my bed twice to somebody else , thereby displacing my towel and sandals
This place is a mixed bag if you want to party this is the place. But there are lots of other places around cheaper and the bar is open to everyone. There basically isn't any air-con because they only turn it on at night in the rooms and leave it at 26 degrees when the outside temperature is cooler then that not much point in the air-con. The sercurity on the face of it is very good with electronic locks to get from the bar to the rooms above but as they leave the door to the fire exit open?
A true party hostel if ever there was one. Is a great place to stay across the board but the non stop pumping party wasn't ideal for a solo traveller like myself. Couple of chilled bar nights per week wouldn't go amiss!
Although our stay was pretty good overall, I was really disappointed in the way the management dealt with a specific concern and their overall behavior during our time there. The two hostels hosted a party the night we stayed there and the employees of the hostel were by far the most intoxicated and obnoxious of everyone that was there. I was harassed MULTIPLE times by one employee in particular. Another one was wandering blind drunk exposing himself everywhere. I was embarrassed for them.

Awesome awesome party atmosphere. Maybe warn travellers of the theft and remind them not to take expensive belongings out!

Great hostel. Love it! Only gripes are the wifi is temperamental and aircon should be kept on!
All in all a decent hostel but my friends and I all got a chronic case of pink eye from the hostel. Also the castaway tour was terrible - limited opportunity to swim and rubbish "guides" who were just drunk 24-7, showed no respect for Halong Bay as a world heritage site and a boat that was falling apart.
Best hostel I have ever stayed in , and I have stayed in lots
eIxcellent hostel for Young people who want to have fun at the bar - if you look for a quiet place you can't stay down at the lobby, you have to get up to the 5th floor - if I have nothing against the Young people having fun it would be nice to keep the lobby without loud music for breakfast time. It's not really fun when you have to scream at breakfast already to be understood
Mainly a party hostel the tours offered there are really expensive compared to local offering unless you're looking for the extreme party boat (nudity included we were told). Food is also quite expensive but decent. Good common area to meet people and socialise. Not for the faint hearted
Tucked away on Ma May, this hostel is walking distance from essential shops, banks, and minor attractions. Every day offered a new activity, whether beer pong, a pub quiz, or a typical club night. Staff were always courteous and willing to help. Dorms were spacious, secure, and regularly cleaned. My only complaint would be with regard to the WiFi connection, which was temperamental. Regardless, the hostel is a fair place to start a tour of Vietnam.
Can't complain about this hostel! Great atmosphere, very secure, staff are always smiling and very helpful, every night has something going on in the bar. Short walk from the Bia Hoi quarter. I'd recommend doing the Cadtaways trip they offer, worth every penny!
