Free breakfast, internet, lockers and friendly staff - what more can you ask for? We went on the 3 days 2 night Halong Bay tour, which was too expencive but a lot of drinking and fun!!!!

Go on the Halong Bay Tour through this hostel. It was an amazing experience and the highlight of my trip to Vietnam.

I stayed in the female dorm room. The room was value for money. However, they were doing renovations which begun 6am in the mornings, waking myself and the other girls up. Breakfast was ok. The hostel staff weren't the friendliest, but helpful. The hostel seem to be more focused on the drinking and partying scene. Which was not really what I was interested in.

Stayed in a dorm and a 3-bed room. The three bed room was lovely - great comfy beds and felt more like a hotel. The dorms were also good. Great lockers underneath the beds and good vibe from guests and staff. Only gripe would be the ultra small showers and toilets with sporadic hot water supply.

Best hostel I've stated at hands down. Great place, friendly, secure, great tours, breakfast beds and bathrooms. I just wish my body could take more drinking!!

In fact more of place to crash for people who come to \'nam for cheap drinks rather than travel. Non-vietnamese staff also tends to be focussed on happy hour. Still, if you start your tour (north -> south) there, you will also run into some people with useful advice who come the other direction.

This is the old Hanoi Backpackers but still a great place to stay and meet people. As it is the smaller of the two hostels the atmosphere is more friendly and everyone gets to know everyone on the roof top bar. Very nice hostel, clean dorms/bathrooms, basic breakfast (bread, butter, jam and banana's but better than nothing). The Halong Bay trip is a must do!!

Great vibe and helpful staff, they were especially accommodating about arranging cars to and from the airport for me at really inconvenient hours of the morning and night. My only complaint was that my last night there, a woman with a small child were sharing the bed below me, which was really awkward as they had hung up a towel to try to hide the kid, who also cried several times during the night.

Back Packer hostel was an excellent place to stay for cheap, and to meet lots of new people from all over the country. however the best experience has to be the 'rock hard, rock long' trip to Halong Bay, we have recommended the trip to others since, we had Travis as our rep, and Andy Frisbee as our rep on Castaway island! they made it memorable, not forgetting to mention Hero! he was the best and even graced us with the Vietnam national anthem! Backpacker hostel 2 was the best for food and drink

HIghly recommended! I stayed at both the old and new hostel, both were good but the new one has much better facilities and more people around. Both are in great locations, staff are great and would definitely recommend the 2-night Halong Bay tour.

The prices reported on the website are slightly different from the ones they will actually charge you, specially if you are in a double room, just be mindful of that.

Had a fantastic time here. If you want to meet people and make friends then this is the place to come. They have a roof top bar which is full most nights and cheap. very close to everything you will need. The Rock Long Rock Hard Ha Long Bay tour was good. very lively lots of booze. Staff were very helpful and the breakfast is great.
