This is a very nice hotel with clean and light rooms in a quiet alley in the Old Quarter. Staff was very helpful and friendly, the owner especially. The only remark I have is that they overcharged us for the Halong Bay tour we booked there. We only found out once we compared prices with the other travellers on the tour.

Location was fantastic, but thats all you're paying for. Room was quite dirty with old ripped towels and ants over the bathroom sink.

We only stayed here for one night, a very nice Hostel/Hotel however, it was very tricky to find as it was down a alley way. Staff were very friendly, rooms were nice and clean. This place has a lift for a start :-), internet access was the fastest we have come across. The staff helped us book a reputable taxi to the train station (despite it being fairly close, we didn't want to walk) and it only cost is $2. They even let us leave our luggage at the reception whilst we were away.

really good price for everything : staff, place, breakfast, ... don't look for another hotel this one is the best we had on vietnam. Ask the staff to pick you up at the airport, it's the local price at 18$. Some tourists pay 60$ to get to Hanoi :s

We are very satisified with your room and service and would like to choose Gecko again if we go back to Hanoi sometime. Our stay would be perfect if the last night we spent there (we stayed at yours for 4 or 5 nights)had enough hot water for two people. Even though it's quite an unfair suggestion as my bf had a long bath before I got a chance to have a hot shower. But the very next morning I found out that there wasn't any hot water either.

This place is located in a little alley way not far from the lake, so it has a great location but is still quiet. The staff were helpful, especially when we got sick they recommended a hospital for us and got us a taxi. The beds are comfortable and clean, and breakfast (whilst nothing special) is good and included. Would recommend.

All the staff were really friendly and couldnt have been more helpful. Great location in the old quarter. The room was clean, although the sheets didnt seem clean. But we felt it was good value for money at $10 a night in comparison to other places we stayed in Hanoi.

it was FREEZING (we were there in January) it would have been nice if the room had a heater but other than that, no complaints.

This was a lovely hostel. The staff were friendly and cheerful; the rooms were clean and finished to a high standard; the beds were comfy, with toasty duvets; the showers were hot; the rooms included a tv, kettle, hair-dryer and safe; and there were several options for breakfast. There was also a lift, which was handy for the upper floors. Well worth the price for a little treat while travelling. The only small down side was that the wifi network wasn't a secured network.

A bit tucked away in a quiet side street but Taxis driver had no problem finding it and its right in the center of the old quarter. Hostel was overall ok, I found the staff to be extremly nice and reliable.

Same comments as first review: Hanoi Gecko was an ideal hostel for my stay before and after my few days up north in Halong Bay. Upon arrival from Singapore to Vietnam, Gecko was my first stay and they were more than accommodating. Quinn(at the front desk) was amazing. She booked my next flight at ease, recommended the best local restaurants for dinner (New Day on Ma May Str) and let me check out late to make traveling to Hoi An easier. The rooms were all clean with hot water and safe keeping.

Very kind staff, good location - close to the center lake, still in a quiet dead end street, to be recommended! :)

very nice and helpful staff. very clean. at check out they were a bit aggressive on selling the airport taxi (i think about US$8 more than calling your own) but in the end I thought it was worth it to save headache.
