Reasonable price for what they offer. It is very well located, a block from the beach and close to the 5th avenue bars and restaurants. Pitfalls: You may get anemic after all the mosquito bites you get. Amazingly, the staff seem careless about it.

This is the best hostel in the world!!! i recomend it to everyone that wants to have a great time in Playa del Carmen. Its very well located and the happy gecko staff is awesome! The bargirl Rocio is so cute and nice and makes the best mojitos in playa!! Recepciongirls Andrea, Anita and Lolo are so funny!! and helpfull and they know a lot about where to go for excursions or where to go out at night!!! Thank you dear happy gecko staff for making this stay unforgettable!!!

Have a shower that drains water way. Have curtains to cover the windows to stop some of the bright outside lights. Don't allow drunk people to congregate around the check in desk, next to rooms. For only $30 more you can get a great newly renovated hotel room with a/c, tv and ocean view balconies. Much better value. I would definitely not recommend this hostel, principally because it is not value for money in a town with hundreds of other options.

We were three girls spending our Sping Break in Mexico and stayed at Happy Gecko! The stuff were great, and always a pleasure to meet. They could answer any question we had about where to go in Playa del Carmen area. We had a room with our own bathroom and kitchen, which was very nice. The room was cleaned every day, but wish we could get new towels daily though.

La localización es excelente. Si buscan conocer gente y estar de fiesta es muy bueno, pero si lo que quieren es descansar no es recomendable, ya que la fiesta suele durar hasta entrada la madrugada.

spacious privates, great atmosphere, awesome staff! And the rooftop is such a great place to hang out and to start the night there - or better: to celebrate the night there!

Great little place, close from the beach. Nice clean rooms and tons of facilities. The staff are the nicest people. Made my stay totally worth it. They also have an awsome bar on the roof, where you can meet people from all over the world travelling just like you or get to know some locals that like hanging out there. Definitely a place I'll like to come back some day.

I had such a fab time in Happy Gecko Hostel and wanted to thank all the staff for being so great! Everyone is super friendly and there is a great atmosphere :-). The beds are comfy and everything is clean and the location is very good too, just 10 minutes away from the bus station ( that is if you walk very slowly) and 3 minutes from the beach! My whole stay there was just awesome.

The music was way to loud and did not turn down at 11pm like it said it would. The hostel had little character!

No change of bed linen and never clean towels. When asking about it the staff just shrugged and blamed their laundry service. Random people were given permission to enter our room and use our private bathroom. No key to the door to our room and no gate to enter the hostel, i.e. very unsafe. Very loud music the whole night, every night, from the hostel bar that is right next to the rooms -in which there is a note saying "no noice after 11pm"! Even with ear plugs it was loud. Stayed there 6 nights

This hostel is pretty awful. I wouldn't advise staying here unless you would like to be up until 2am every night with techno music coming from the hostel bar. The staff seem to hate working there and are very unhelpful. Springs coming out of the beds, bugs crawling on the walls and mold on the ceiling...pretty much the worst hostel I've ever stayed in. Try to find somewhere else if you'll be in Playa del Carmen!
