Surprisingly quiet considering the set-up...but, maybe we got lucky and quiet groups were staying there the weekend we were there. Rooms were clean and modern...OH, but the windows need screens so that mosquitoes can be avoided at night. Free internet and better cutting and chopping knives in the kitchen, please (or do they get stolen easily?).

The area felt a bit "dodgey" - no surprise though. The staff weren't particularly helpful - no maps and directed me to the tourist office. A small map of the area and what streets to travel.... or not, would have been helpful. Once inside, I felt very safe.

Nice staff but unfortunately this placr has bed bugs. I had to change rooms three times and got bitten badly.

The area outside is a bit seedy. Notwithstanding, we enjoyed the proximity to U Shaka Waterworld

We stayed in a very clean and naturally lit double room. Shared bathroom facilities were top notch. Huge warehouse style communal area and kitchen. Within walking distance to the beach and Ushaka Marine World (~30-35min walk to CBD or 10min People Mover Bus). Would happily stay at Happy Hippo again. Thank you!

Overall, good hostel for money paid. Great location, sufficient restroom facilities, good staff. Bar on top nice touch. Could. Improve by adding TV in common area, and having free Wifi.
