Harbourside was ideally located, close to the few food choices that Sandakan has to offer. Very close to Greenview Tour office where we had booked our river and jungle tour, so paying and meeting for departure was super easy. Taxis were plentiful at the end of the block and the bus station to Sepilok was just a 7 minute walk away. Breakfast was basic but kitchen facilities were good if making own food; hotplate, small fridge, toaster and hot water dispenser. Large sofa with TV and many DVDs.

I liked the Harbourside Backpackers. It was very clean. Easy to come and go with your swipe card. The lockers are small and in the reception area but they do the job for keeping your valuables safe while you're out. There isn't much to do in Sandakan though. Unless you're happy to take taxis. Wifi had a tendency to drop out and was only available in the common area not the dorms. The thermostat is in the room which is annoying if you're sharing because people change it during the night.

Good location, friendly staff, and very clean hostel. Helped with booking tours (although a little expensive). Breakfast basic toast & tea. Really enjoyed the large common room with lots of new movies to chose from. Overall good value and good place to stay.

Very clean hostel, centre of town, easy to get bus or taxis. They have a good deal of tours available to book, we booked Turtle Island for 650MYR and afternoon river cruise for MYR190. Communal TV lounge area is good for meeting people, although there weren't many people staying while we were there, although it may have been moving out of the tourist peak season. Friendly and helpful staff.

One of the cleanest hostels I've ever stayed in. The location couldn't be more central, the staff were very helpful and it was exceptionally clean. So good in fact that we booked an extra night there!

Stayed here for two nights. The whole hostel is very clean. It's very easy to meet other people in the TV/computer room or in the kitchen. The people who work there are also very friendly.

Great hostel; clean, nice size rooms and good central location. Free water and breakfast are good too. We were able to book a tour on the kinabatangan river here for a great price. Only bad thing is that the wifi is truely terrible!

Harbourside backpackers is definitely value for money, close to shopping centre and right in town centre. They do good trips to Kinabatangan River as well. Highly recommended. Laundry a bit too expensive at RM12/kilo (normally priced at RM5/kilo elsewhere).

Great hostel. Perfect location to explore the town and good base to use if you want to explore some of the national parks in the area. They let me store my luggage there for free when I went into the national parks for a few days. Pretty busy hostel so easy to meet other backpackers, which is important for me as a solo traveler. Would stay again.

Just a minor thing - Wifi could not be accessed in some of the rooms. Other than that, I am quite happy and I will definitely come back to the same hostel in the future if I visit sadakan again !
