i enjoyed my stay here. Close to the harbour, but there's not a lot to do or see in the area unless you get a bus or taxi. very clean and comfortable. There's a great little common room with a TV, lots of dvds to choose from and two PCs but its quite quiet.
Nice hostel, great location with everything you could need within a short walking distance. Would definitely recommend.
Good location near the sea front and close to the minibus station to get to Sepilok. The hostel lacked atmosphere and personality which is a shame as they had some lovely common spaces. Bedrooms are basic and again lacking personality, a couple of pictures on the wall would be nice!
Suberb, especially compared to other hostels I heard about from travellers.
Nice common room with sofas and TV, the staff were very helpful and kind! There were a few funny stains in the bed but the bathroom and other facilities were spotless.
Clean, comfortable hostel in the middle of the town. The lounge area is nice, feels like a home.
Very friendly staff. james walked me to the bus for sepilok!
we stayed for 2 nights and it was very clean. there were no lockers which was a bit of a shame but I'd stay again as the staff were very friendly and helpful.
Nice hostel set right near the harbour. Lots of markets etc. around the area. Easy to get to the minibus station for Sepilok on foot (5 mins walk). Friendly staff and clean communal areas. Overall good value for money - be aware though that walk in prices are lower than those when you book online !
thanks i did enjoy my stay there, all is fine and no complains:-)

The Harbourside Backpackers is by far the best hostel I've stayed in in Sabah. The rooms are clean and bright. The hostel owner is very friendly and even showed me around Sandakan to look for a local dessert. It is located close to Central Market where cheap eats can be found in the morning and afternoon. My only gripe is the internet speed, which slows to a grinding halt at night when everyone gets back.
The lady at reception was very helpful, while the older dude at the desk was nice enough to let me stay up late to watch a Barclays Premier League match on the TV - just missing a free breakfast, that would have been a nice touch...
Great place to stay--clean, friendly/helpful staff, and the A/C is great! There's a big TV room with lots of (pretty bad) movies. The "breakfast" is tea, coffee, and bread-n-jam. Great location...near the bus station/mini-bus station. Don't take the taxis they offer--Try the mini bus station....SO much cheaper and you get to experience the local fare.
By far the cleanest and coolest (temperature wise) hostel I have stayed at throughout Malaysia. The staff are forever cleaning! Great size private and dorm rooms. Great shower pressure and within walking distance to Harbourside restaurants and shops. They also organise common tours at a discounted rate. Don't think about staying anywhere else in Sandakan.
Great Hostel, our double bed room was very clean and we had a great private bathroom. The staff was super helpful and gave us great advices! The hostel is located right across a big shopping mall. You get some towels for free and the AC works well. Great value for money
Great hostel. Clean, good location. Nice lounge area with TV. Didn't have lockers for valuables though.
