Hi Crystal Thanks for your feedback - I have just emailed you as I wish to learn a bit more about what we could offer to increase the value for money. Appreciate your constructive comments, and we enjoyed having you stay with us. Happy Travels Brooke Manager

We marked this down from excellent as we felt the room with the little double bed squished against the wall was a little tight. The other issue was there was no way to secure the window open a slight bit to give us fresh air. Maybe provide another set of bolt holes a few cm above the sill? Otherwise it was a great place with wonderful view, with very helpful and professional staff. BTW we are in our 50s so not your usual clientelle.

Hi Was a pleasure meeting you! As we have the original layout from the St Amand Hotel (the oldest building in Tauranga!) unfortunately we are limited with space in the rooms - We have tried to make it as comfortable as possible! As part of our ongoing improvements, we have since been able to check all of our windows to make sure that they have suitable bolt holes - We are sorry that your room was the only room that didnt have a second set of holes! We cater for independent travellers of all ages - whether you are in your 20's or 50's - so we are very glad you enjoyed our hostel, and we appreciate your feedback. The only way we can improve is by our guests letting us know! So, thankyou! Happy Travels Manager

Communal area really nice. Dorm bit cramped with nowhere to put belongings. No lockers, just a safe behind reception (office hours only). Went there as was told there were work opportunities but I had to be there before being given a position. When I turned up was told all the packhouse jobs had been given to kiwis who hadn't even arrived yet. Most residents were long-termers and cliquey. Free bike hire great. Mt Maunganui is beautiful. I would recommend staying over there instead of Tauranga.

Hi Elise We do have shelves in each room for your belongings, and also boxes available from the storage cupboard in the dining room if you need to put under your bed. We cannot hold any positions for people not in our hostel as all the work is First-In - First-Served. Once you are here, we have a work handout, and help you find employment in town. If you had a CAR we could have given you a job immediately. We also DO NOT arrange work for packhouses - these jobs are always advertised directly by the packhouses in Jan/Feb each year and you need to apply in person to them. The cut off date for these positions was in February - and you arrived in March - I am sorry that you missed out on this. Generally the experienced Kiwi workers (those who are on permanent staffing roles 12 months of the year) get the first jobs at the packhouse before they hire Travellers for the main season (April/May) Our weekly rates are offered in only a percentage of our rooms, and March - Sept is our main seasonal work period - we do have non-long term dorms available if you so desire. We pride ourselves with offering a clean, relaxed and friendly atmosphere, and I am sorry you did not feel that way - Almost all of our long term guests involve any new guests into the circle, but as always it is up to the individual to join in with them. We are also only a 6km journey to Mount Maunganui, right on the bus-stop, and have free bikes .. There is alot to do in Tauranga and so day trips to the 'Mount' are encouraged! Thank you for your feedback - It is greatly appreciated! I must apologise as all of your comments could have been readily fixed if you had approached reception and spent longer in Tauranga than only 2 days. Good Luck with the rest of your travels around NZ! We would welcome you back anytime, Kind Regards Brooke, Manager

The hostel is right next to the sea with nice views although you need to move your car before 10am to avoid a ticket. The staff were able to sort out us with various discounts which was great. The place was very clean and friendly although there was a large non-English speaking family who were making noise past midnight and allowing their kids to walk in other people's rooms - not the hostel's fault.

Hi Thanks for your feedback - You are right, if parking directly outside the hostel, it is free overnight and on weekends (after 4pm and before 9am) - but there is a no-charge and no-timelimit car park just 600metres down the road. We do have a night manager on site to control the noise level after 11pm - we are very sorry that one of our groups disturbed your stay! As we are a large hostel, it can be difficult to be in all places at the same time - we are working on our super powers for that! We hope you are enjoying the rest of your trip, and hope to see you again soon! Thanks Manager

The location of the hostel is perfectly fine, close to everything! You can use internet right there and the balcony view is amazing. the beds were not very comfortable and the stock beds didn't have any letters. I was afraid of falling out of the bed in the night, what happened to one of my roomies.

Hi Yes - we do have free WIFI available up on our second level, and I am always amazed by the views each morning too! We have recently upgraded our mattresses - thank you for letting us know! If no one tells us they are uncomfortable, we cannot improve - Also the type of bunk beds we have do not come with a full size ladder, just a stepping bar - and they are set to industry standards - Whether you are on a top bunk or a bottom bunk, there is always a caution of falling out of bed - And if this is truely a concern, we are more than happy to upgrade you to a different room so you have a bottom bunk! Enjoy the rest of your travels Thanks for your feedback! Cheers

Hi Carl & David Great to have you - hope you are enjoying the rest of your travels! It's true, our main clientele age range is 18-30 years, and we do have a great location close to the Bars & Clubs. But we do have a Night Warden on site to keep noise at a minimum, and to provide a friendly & welcoming atmosphere for all. Would love to have you back, Happy Travels Brooke Manager

Hi Mike Don't forget we both witnessed the sun shining through for about 1 minute on New Years Eve! Agreed, the weather was absolutely shocking during your stay, but as always, it's still a glorious day on the Tauranga Harbour! All the best to you and Diana, was great having you here for New Years -you are both welcome back anytime you like! Thanks and Happy Travels (with less rain!) Brooke Manager

Excellent location. Only 2 mins from main bus stop and i-site. Reception full of ideas and things to do. Easy access to Mt Maunganui which has plenty to do. Staff are nice. Many too many long-termers staying there?

Hi Charles We loved your feedback - thanks so much! And also, it was awesome having you stay with us! In a perfect world we would love nightly stayers only, however, since we are a 'working hostel' and find work for our guests, they need to be staying here for the duration of the job - so in that case, some of them are on 8-12 week contracts, and fall into a long term stay ... Fortunately we have enough rooms to be able to separate the long termers from our nightly stayers, to provide a more comfortable stay for all! We hope to see you again soon, but if not, HAPPY travels and remember, life is beautiful! Dream - Explore - Discover! Kind Regards, Brooke & her wonderful Team.
