Bed bugs and roaches in the room. The first night the room was so hot I couldn\'t sleep, the last night so cold I couldn\'t sleep either. Very poor internet facilities. I stayed there from Oct 28 thru Nov02 and was skeptical in the begining. The staff made me very welcome and the room was small but suitable. I was informed there was no television before my arrival so there was no let down. I did see a couple of roaches but no reflection on the Y.Houskeeping was there seven days a week maybe not the main people during the weekday but bathrooms were always clean and the lounge area could have used some new furniture still okay. The Harlem YMCA is for me a great place to stay. It is close to best subways and buses. There is ample shopping for groceries,or anything else. Only complaint would be that there are 5 permanent residents some of which smoke in rooms and it infiltrates other rooms. I had to be moved to avoid this. Staff is helpful and friendly. For ease of travel, this location is great. I have stayed here before and use it for extended stays of up to three weeks. The Harlem YMCA is for me a great place to stay. We stayed in this hostel for 10 days,it turned out to be a nightmare! Water pipes broke on a Friday & the whole building was flooded! Stopping the lifts for a day or two.The whole building was flooded thus stopping us to use the gym for the entire duration of the stay! Staff are so unhelpful & if not that I insisted to use the West Side YMCA gym (where I stayed in Oct 08), they wont even bother to give me a guest pass. You cant adjust the heating in the rooms & it was on all night & hot!POORESTWe stayed in this hostel for 10 days,it turned out to be a nightmare! The location was excellent for me because I enjoy the many services with Gospel music. It\\\'s easy to get to downtown by the subway. But I spent a great deal of time in Harlem and got to like the neighbourhood very much. The staff was very helpful. I had a small room first with a single bed and a dresser crammed into a tiny space. But when I asked for a room with a desk I got a lovely room with space and the desk and chair I required.
I could stay here again if on a thight budget. The location was excellent for me because I enjoy the many services with Gospel music. It\\\'s easy to get to downtown by the subway. It was just great staying at the YMCA Harlem. Maybe it isnīt the most beautiful part of NY, but it is friendly, real and not as expensive as other areas. The Metrostation is very close, so you can easily reach everything. The staff was helpful and friendly. The aircon was fooling around a bit, but that wasnīt so bad. I would recommend staying there! It was just great staying at the YMCA Harlem. Maybe it isnīt the most beautiful part of NY, but it is friendly, real and not as expensive as other areas. The only inquiry I have is that there is no security locks in the 11th floor of the men\'s bathroom. There is a door to the shower but it is missing its knob and the other door to the entrance as well as its door frame are badly damaged. Also the windows to the halls did not have window guards and someone can easily fell as many of these windows were left open wide enough for a child to fit. Many vagrants outside the YMCA, security needed. 4 stars! The only inquiry I have is that there is no security locks in the 11th floor of the men\'s bathroom.
