the staff at the Harlem YMCA were sooo friendly. made you feel right at home the second you came through the door. lots of info if you arent from the area. swimming and gym are included in your nights stay BUT you need to wear a swimming cap. rooms were small but cozy and clean. bathrooms were typical, but also clean. older place...more run down, but well taken care of. doesnt leave you feeling dirty. kitchen was pretty minimal but ok. the hostel is right near a subway too. no complaints!

Just a place to sleep, really really basic. Showers were not very hot and not always working. Nice view at the 11th floor. Staff very nice and helpful. We really liked the area of Harlem.

Tiny tiny rooms, looks ore like a prison cell ! No possibility to open window + ventilation smelled like death. Still, if you're only looking for a bed you've got it. No kitchen per se : only a microwave and a sink. A bit disappointing. Also, only one bathroom for one floor. Staff very nice and helpful. Always very clean. Location absolutely killer, next to the subway : under ten minutes to reach the heart of Manhattan. Overall, a bit expensive for what it actually is, but the location makes it.

You need more restrooms at a floor and clean them oftener. Soap in every restroom would be great as well.

Lack of conveniance. For instance no hangers or cusrtains in the bathrooms, claning staff knocking on the doors since 7 am repeatedly till 10am.

YMCA in Harlem was a great experience. Allthough it is situated in Harlem there is no need to very - the neighborhoud isn\'t that bad at all and there is a police station a block away. The staff is extremely friendly, helpful and open. The rooms are clean and there is daily roomservice. There is gym in the building (very nice equipped) which is free of charge, there is a lounge with free wi-fi, TV and sofas. And the metro to downtown is only a block or two away so overall it is a bargain!

Feels like in a prison. Security cams everywhere don't make one feel at home and it doesnt have any nice community areas either. The rooms are very small and not nice.

The place comes with 24hr security, daily housekeeping, enthusiastic and friendly staff, all of the facilities such as the gym and the pool are available free of charge and then it\'s placed on Manhattan. It\'s simply a fantastic \'bang for the buck\' value hostel!

The privat room was very very simple. Window was leaking so quite cold wind was blowing inside. No comfort, wifi only in the basement. Restrooms were also very simple. However, all hotels or hostels are very expensive in NY. But I got the impression that YMCA does a lot of good work with the money they earn on the hostel, for local people in Harlem. Staff was good, efficient and helpfull. But as said don't expect any comfort in the rooms.

If all you want is a bed to sleep on and a shower in NYC this is the place for you. It has friendly staff, but the room is bare minimum and not the cleanest place in the world, there are long term residents in the building, but everyone is very friendly and whenever I had a problem it was properly addressed. We had problems getting hot water, but it was very affordable and served a purpose. I think we saw way more of NYC than if we had a nice hotel due to not wanting to go back to the room!

I had a problem with bedbugs and had to buy some bugspray. It was often quite noisy in the hall at night, especially when there were groups staying at the hostel. Apart from that, it's a really nice, friendly, well-kept, and affordable place that I can definitely recommend.
