Unfortunately we did not have a good experience at this hostel. The rooms and location were fine but the service and reception (there was none) were very bad. There was no sign for a hostel so we entered Hemingway's bar. The bartender laughed when we asked if he spoke English, so we left assuming it was the wrong place. Someone seated in the bar then came out to say "uh are you looking for the hostel?" and then she took our money and gave us the key. No communication other than that.

Nice place to stay with a beautiful room and comfortable bed. Probably one of the best sleeps I had on the trip. It was unique that the rooms were above a bar/restaurant, and there was no noise to interrupt our sleep. Location was right near a busy street with all kinds of shops and restaurants. We did have to share a bathroom, but we never saw the other guests and so this didn't pose as a problem.

The staffs at the cafe/bar were kind. Stairways are narrow. Restroom/Shower was clean, but didn't have lights. The location is great right next to the river and the bridge. It is also close walk to all the shopping areas and the sightseeing places. Bit of a walk from the station (Heidelberg HBF) about 15 to 20 minutes. You have to use the key to lock the door from the inside also. That was bit inconvenient. During my trip, this hostel was also the only hostel without wifi access from the room.

Hemingway's was great! The location is perfect (in the dead center of where you want to be), the staff friendly, the atmosphere fun. We booked a private double and had a lot of space and very comfortable bed, with a very clean bathroom available on our floor (shared with just one other room).

Good basic hostel. The room was clean and the bathroom was well equipped and very clean, I've noticed some complaints about carrying bags upstairs, but's this place is located in the Old city. There are no elevators. That's part of the cool factor.

Small rooms right above the bar, you have to go into the bar first, sound from the bar at night was fine though, narrow staircase but all good. One bathroom per floor so it could be busy, great location on the river and short walk to old town

The room was good but the floor was very old and makes too much sound while walking. Even with a small step. Also the door of the room was almost broken and you can hear all the sounds from the hall and the next door. The cleanliness and the location is very good. However, the hostel is on up-floor of Hemingway's cafe and there is no lobby. The bar tenders are responsible from checking-in and checking-out (if we can say they are really responsible!!!) and there is no professionalism.

We stayed in a very spacious double room with a shared bathroom on the second floor, but we were only sharing the bathroom with one other room and we hardly saw the other people. The room was airy, bright and spotlessly clean, with great views across the river. We had breakfast (not included) in the bar and it was very good, as were the drinks the night before. We'd definitely stay here again.

Good value for a centrally located, spacious private room. With only one other room on our floor there was never a wait for the shared bathroom. We were also concerned about bar and street noise given the location but noise turned out not to a big problem. Travelers should be aware that you need to climb lots of steep narrow stairs to get to the rooms, and the hostel is a sort of add-on to a bar/restaurant so there's no traditional reception area or housekeeping services.
