There were a lot of (cute) but smelly animals- a pig, cats etc... smelt a bit off in the sitting area.

Ahhh yes, we were struggling with toilet training out new little pet piggie, she was only 6 weeks old and still learning how to use the garden and not the carpet. The carpet cleaning guys have been in and sorted out the nasty little barnyard odour and the little piggie (Ziggy) has gone to live on a wine farm close by... now we stick to non-smelly animals! So everything is back to normal and Hermanus Backpackers is sweet smelling once more... Hayley xx

Over the whole line a nice backpacker, but for such (hotel)prices, you would expect just a bit more. The room was basic with quite some noise, cold and light coming in. Hey, we are not complaining, it is a backpackers in the end.

thanks for your review via Hostelworld. Hotel prices in Hermaus start at around R500 per person, per night, even guest houses and B&B's are pricy at R350 per person. It's not a cheap town for sure - but we feel like we give fair value, you had towels, tea/coffee in your room, light breakfast, good security etc - please let me know if we could improve our service, I'd hate to think people feel ripped off in any way. Hayley xx

Nice place, friendly and helpful staff, but please install some clothing hangers in the room...

Stayed one night in a double room at the second house (around the street corner). Perfectly clean and spacious room, fully equipped and furnished kitchen Would come back if back in Hermanus

Possibly the best hostel I've stayed at. Great staff and amazing facilities - having a pool, bar, pool table, braai, bonfire and free breakfast is more than I've had anywhere else, and it's well worth the money. The location is great and the staff are on hand to help organise activities and shuttles. If you go, definitely have the Braai. Awesome steak and garlic bread.
