Very helpful staff but the Hida Gassho-en is overpriced for what it offers. It is a bit outside of town though if you walk briskly you can make it to the historic section of Takayama in 30 minutes. If you want the benefits of restaurants and coffee shops you will find those in town, not near Hida Gassho-en. If you want a more rural setting on the hillside near the Folk Village this may be the place for you. I preferred the place I stayed in town for half the price.

Very expensive for what you get. Only very expensive dinner option available- would be nice to have a greater variety of meal options for those on more of a budget to try. Also, some confusion with the payment etc of station transfers- make sure you get receipts for everything.
