Great experience at Hilo Backpackers hostel. The staff was friendly, the room was great, and everything was clean. Thank you for a great experience!

Is a nice place with friendly staff and the area of hill is quite good. Only problem I had with my stay was lack of eftpos as when we arrived my party didn't have the cash to pay for entire stay, but will point out Jarred on front desk did give us a day to visit the ATM which was nice. But yeah upgrade facilities to accomidate credit cards for future higher ratings. Still recommend staying here.

Excellent facilities, friendly staff, quiet at night in the hostel so you can sleep and an all round excellent 'home from home' down to earth hostel perfect for exploring the Big Island. I will recommend this hostel, just make sure the cleanliness is kept on top of!

The young folks running the hostel were great, very helpful & everything ran smoothly. My one complaint is that the second night they were unable to pick up the Merrie Monarch broadcast.

A single room to ourselves that locks for only $36/night cannot be beat during the annual Hula Festival in Hilo, HI (which was phenominal). HOWEVER, the guy at the front desk only took cash (not specified on our reservation), and was a little rude in demanding it. ALSO, he told us to park anywhere in the parking lot, but the next day we had a note on our windshield saying we would be towed if the car was not moved b/c it was for "customers only." He pretended to be confused... you decide.

The outside of this place looks a little scary - but don't worry the inside is nice. Definately a quiet place inside. Sleep can be a bit noisey due to traffic, airplanes and garbage trucks at 4am, but probably have the same issues at the other hostel across the street. All in all, decent place to stay. Didn't take them, but tours from the place look a little steep in price.

Very Nice... Could use some lockers for valuables and have a board to put car pooling info. Thanks

Do not count on being able to do any of their tours, as they only run if they have 4 or more people signed up and according to one of their staff that rarely happens.

This hostel was very clean and relaxing, and the staff were friendly. This hostel also serves breakfast of toast, coffee, tea, & fruit. Also the tours to Kona and Volcano National Park were cheap. Highly recommended for travelers.

Good location, close to the beach park, shops, pubs, restaurants. Very nice and big cmmon area. The breakfast is a coffee, toast and a fruit. I was happy with that. Saddly all the tours got canceld, cause there were too less people how signd up. But you can walk to a beatiful waterfall and Pools

The place to go if you're planning to stay on big island/hilo. Our stay was a great fun and the staff is awesome and helped us a lot to plan our visits (volcano, black sand beach etc...). The private room (double bedroom) was awesome too (the bed is soooooo large :) ) Nothing more to add I think :)

Very nice people run the place. beds are very comfy. The private suites look great. They were very forthcoming with info on different things to keep your self busy while there. The out side of the building is scary looking, but the inside is well maitained and fashionable, like that matters but was nice to see.

I've only stayed in this hostel in Hilo, but my impression is that they are much better on this side of the island. This one has a VERY large common space, nice flatscreen and free toast and fruit in the mornings. Jared at the front desk really hooked me up with places to see and things to do in the area and took time out to acquaint me with the facilities. The hostel was pretty empty when I was there and the vibe was very laid back.
