This is a vintage hostel. You looks like is entering in a post WW2 building. Old building. The hall looks like a museum full of old things. the public is different, compared with Honolulu Hostels, full of young and talkative people. This is a hostel for the matures, with many long term hots living here for months. People here are more reserved.

I think this place is a half-way house. There seem to be permanent residents who have excessive tattoos who played poker and drank beer. They seemed to leave in the morning...maybe they kicked the habit and were in recovery. The bed was an old 2" foam on noisy springs. People were nice.

The location is good but the building is very dated. The showers were mostly clean but with mould in the grout. Security was not great for the 8-bed dorm, anyone can walk in and out but lockers are provided. A bonus is that everyone hangs out in the main common area and you can find conversation there if you'd like :)

The place had very strange atmosphere, and people seemed to be staying there long term. There were no big lockers for your bag in the room, small ones were in the common area. The room were packed with beds making no space of your own. No good mattress. The place was clean tho which was a relief.

Not enough toilets and showers, in need of a bit of investment.

Good location for travellers who do not rent a car and depend on the local bus to get around. Bus terminal is just 2 streets away. Clean and basic facilities, easy to get food and quite many cafes around the area.

The layout and location were excellent and the hostel catered for all ages. Terry was very helpful in organising the helicopter trip for me. Hilo is a great place to stay if you want to stay away from the resort type place and explore. Having a car make exploration much easier. Merry Christmas and Happy new year to everyone. Vip

We stayed one night in a nice double-bed room, got great advice for a place to eat and for finding all we needed. Nice atmosphere at the hostel, we are happy to recommend it! Jan and Karo

Only complaint.... some bugs flew in. Screens in the windows would be great.

It was a strange place. Many hippies. But probably the place/hostel in hilo.

A very pedestrian hostel. Great jumping off spot for eastern island exploration but that's about it (and it is very proper for that!). Clean, not very social...probably because floor plan is centered around an empty space for its stairwell.

Fantastic stay. I spent only 2 nights here but has a great atmosphere, great location. Staff were so friendly and helpful. Resident dog and parrots added to it all. So central to everything!

The hostel is right in downtown Hilo and is surrounded by food places and bar. We walked in the hostel when hit by a hint of ammonia but a set of vintage looking stairs. The friendly person at the check-in counter claiming to be owner checked us in in no time. Our room looks simple and locally Hawaiian until we see wandering roaches in our room and the washroom... Overall the hostel has friendly and international visitors at a convenient location but cleanliness is to be improved.
