Lovely place, wish I could have stayed longer! Really clean and tidy and the building itself has so much character. One of the nicest places I've stayed. It's quiet, but there's plenty of good people there. Kitchen is small but really well equipped, and the rooms are really spacious. If you get the bottom bunk you even get a double bed.

The hostel is nice, but has a poor atmosphere, everything dies at 10pm ( this is the why many old people like to stay there). You can't invite anybody to visit you, even in the lobby (when I did, they were kicked out disrespectfully by a staff member called Glenda). When I first asked some information by email about things to do in the island, the answer was "buy a guide". Unfortunately, is the best choice if you want to stay downtown in Hilo.

Excellent hostel in a great location - right in the centre of downtown Hilo, yet with three fantastic waterfalls within three miles along the same road. Highly recommended.

Clean really clean, and quite. I would stay there in a heart beat. Not a location for young ppl looking to party and meet others, people here were polite, and kept to themselves. Ps. a car is a must when visiting Hilo

If you want to stay in one of the best Hostels in the world then Hilo Bay Hostel at 101 Waianuenue Avenue, Hilo, Hawaii is the one for you. Guests of all ages and nationalities happily interact with each other in the lounge/common area and spacious restaurant quality kitchen where you can cook a meal or or just hang out and will be most likely offered something (like a slice of mango or fresh pineapple) by a fellow guest. We consider it a destination resort. F & M Eppinger Connecticut

I wish the women's bath/shower rooms did not have open vents and skylights. Rather unnerving.

The age of guests was higher than other hostels I've stayed in (30+ years). The beds were super comfortable, with a double bed on the bottom of the bunk. Great location and the staff were terrific, giving a good orientation spiel on my arrival.

Very chill and homey feel to this place. Not too much going on in Hilo itself but this place is located within walking distance to cool shops and food. Be sure to try the Kava bar 3 blocks away. This place is very welcoming and respectful clients who all pitch in to keep the place tidy.

I would definitely stay here again. It was a very convenient location; nice, airy rooms; clean bathrooms; full kitchen and really friendly staff. Also, it has a beautiful old-world charm to the communal areas. If you are staying in Hilo, it is a nice, affordable place to stay.

The people here were great! I really hated that the kitchen closed so early, or had to close at all especially since this also prevented you from getting to the outside patio. The place could also use an additional bathroom.
