Great rennovated building, upstairs common space and huge shared kitchen. Only chalenge is voices from street walkers through the night drifting up from the side walk below if room is on street sides. Location is great for those with out a car. Food and entertainment nearby, and walk to beach for a moonlight tide walk a big plus.

The room I stayed in was old and dusty with molds growing on the walls and windows. Furthermore, there were birds in the common room right outside my room. For someone with allergies that would have been nice to know in advance, so I could have made my booking elsewhere.

Basically a really nice hostel, but it always come down to people and staff. Rooms and beds are definnetly above the average actually it looks more like a Motel. But the staff: There was an extremly nice guy at the first, he even gave us a bottle of wine and we thought, can it get any better? But on the next day, when we checked out, there was a girl and she even shut down the internet at 11 (checkout time) \'cause we were supposed to leave ... what the fuck!

Great atmosphere, location, and facilities. Most of the staff was awesome. Traffic noise was fairly loud most of the nights, but not terrible. Generally an awesome place!

Bad point. The cheats were to small for the bed and the street noisy around the guys dormitory. out of that, the hostel is good but a bit too expensive for what you got.

One of the BEST hostels I've stayed at EVER. Amazing character and atmosphere. Location was GREAT for Hilo, but Hilo itself doesn't offer a whole lot. I was there to landscape paint, and so was perfectly OK with there being no public beach within a short distance, late-night activities or busy city scene. If you're looking for a relaxed, doing a wonderful kind of nothing place, then this is perfect! Otherwise, try Kona instead.

With a long staircase leading to a huge lobby with a distinct old world charm, it is easy to see why Hilo bay is always in demand. The location is great with the bay and pubs within walking distance. The facility is well managed and spacious but sometimes they put additional temp bed in the middle of the dorm room that makes it overcrowded. Though there is some public parking, you may want to check further if you have a car.

I liked the building - old, wooden floors and paneled walls, ceiling fans, memorabilia on display. It has real warmth and atmosphere and it's quiet - just what I needed.

Nice hostel, located in the middle of Hilo Downtown. Hardwoord floors through out, which was not really expected. Decent facilities(minus the shower). Free, fast internet. Fairly good kitchen with a few things missing. All in all we had a really nice stay at the Bay Bay Hostel. If staying in Hilo, this is recommended!
