This hostel was great! The staff made me feel very welcome. Bernie is more than willing to give advice on the local area and María is a very nice person. I asked many questions before arriving and she always responded to me quickly. The place is very clean, the other guests are extremely friendly, and the location is right by Sunset Beach. I felt safe, relaxed and even wanted to spend time in the lovely garden. The kitchen is stocked, showers are nice, bed is fine. Highly recommended!

To call this a "hostel" is a misnomer - the place is incredible. It is peaceful, beautiful, incredibly clean, and seems to attract great people to stay there.

I have stayed in over 200 different backpacker hostels all around the world, and this one was without a doubt the nicest. The perfect place to stay on the North Shore of O'ahu.

Staying here really made my north shore experience. Best hostel EVER. Maria, the owner, is the RADDDEST most generous, and helpful person. I'll definitely come back!

I have stayed in many many hostels and this was one of the best for sure. Super close to the best surfing on the north shore, quiet, clean, and super laid back, Maria has a great thing going here! I couldn't have asked for a nicer place to stay, thanks again Maria!

Fantastic I came to Hawaii to see the island and the people, not in Waikiki with thousands of people like myself, but to stay somewhere that I could enjoy the real island lifestyle. My stay at Kalanihawaii was everything that I was looking for. Maria and Bernie and others there made me feel like I had found the perfect place to see Hawaii and feel safe and clean and be happy with my lodging at night. The place is amazing, everyone wants you to feel like you´re home and with old friends.

I would totally recomend this place to everyone who has a car and can get from there to Haleiwa, Pipeline, Sunset Beach, etc easily because it is a little bit far to walk from there anywhere & the bus stops only every hour. I had a great time at Marias place but I did not expect the extra tax fees - so counting the payment I had already made at the time of reserving it via Hostelworld & what they charged me for every night it was still a little bit expensive.

What's great: Great location, especially in the North Shore: close to the beaches, surf, and bus stop. Super clean, and great atmosphere. What's not so great: The free bikes are a bonus, although they could use some work. The owner, Maria, will go out of her way to help, although she has a way of confusing reservations, over booking, and not knowing exactly what to charge - so management can improve a bit. Overall this was a great hostel/bed and breakfast and I would definitely stay here again
