In Hoi An, there are no tradition of hostels. So the Hoa My Hostel is an Hotel, and as that, it's not the best place to meet people. But I think that is general in Hoi An. Although, the breakfast, the facilities, the cleanness are really good, and the staff helpful!
Good place to stay as a base to visit Hoi An. The check-in lady gave me a ride on her scooter the 1st night to get tailored work done, which I thought was good because I had limited time, but in retrospect and after experiencing a few other places the hostel recommended, I realized she probably got commission for any work. At least the tailor they sent me to was recommended by Lonely Planet, otherwise, I would have felt ripped off. I defi. got ripped off at one of the cafes they suggested.
15 minute walk into town. Fantastic omelettes in the morning and great coffee! The bicycles aren't free to rent and the staff is a bit curt with you (I'm also not sure about some of their recommendations like tailors). The beach is NOT a 1km walk away (as indicated on their map), it is closer to an hour by foot so rent a bike/motorbike to get there. Decent rooms though we had staff barge in on us at 930AM (wasn't awake yet). Good location though and pretty clean
I booked it because of the pay with card option, at the time of check out they will do anything they can to make you pay in cash and the lady was not very nice with us.
Nothing in our room was cleaned, never had toilet paper or towels replaced in 4 days, yet they were very diligent about finding out exactly what had been taken from the minibar. Service was average except for the lady that works mornings, who was very good. Wifi did not reach most rooms and the staff wouldn't look after our belongings. The room cost too much for what we received. we visited the other Hoa My location and heard really nice things, plus it was really nice looking and had a pool.
I really enjoyed my stay here, it's a really basic hostel about 10 minutes walking distance from the old town, provides air conditioned rooms with towels and free breakfast which was a bargain. Swimming pool was available in another branch of the hotel about a minute's walk from the hostel, which was great after a really hot day. Good tours booked through the hostel, make sure to go to Cham Islands with the Blue Coral centre as they're so much better than the local one!
