The rooms are not smoke-free, so can smell cigarettes smoke in them. The hot water shower and basin tap has to be left running for a good 5 minutes together before the hot water would come around. The restaurant serves good food. Holly is very helpful, in fact most of their staff are. Speaks reasonably well in English. The place is quite well located, about 10 minutes walk to Jinlin Street, where they have interesting stalls. Just at the back street is where the Tibetan neighbourhood is.

This is my 3rd stay at Holly Hostel. T Excellent location to the Tibetan area of town. The old Jinle town attraction is less than a 5 minute walk (adjacent to hostel). The hostel is a good deal for the location. The staff are friendly and fluent in English. Stay on the second floor when possible. The rooms on the first floor have moldy walls and is right next door to a small eatery, so it can get a bit noisy sometimes and smelly. Overall, I'd stay here again...anytime ^^ Safe travels

Room has mould on walls, with this smell and dampness permeating in the room. The upstairess common room seemed to be more for staff then guests. Overall, the accomodation / facilities presented as a mid-range budget hotel.

Quiet and clean with nice 3 bed dorms. Holly's Cafe is a great place to eat with very reasonable prices and good food. Showers and bathrooms were clean and looked after. Although the directions to the hostel aren't quiet accurate. Do not catch the number 27 bus as stated because it doesn't drop you near the hostel or temple, stick to catching the number 57!

Good value for money. In the Tibetan quarter of town. The staff is very helpful and correct, and speak good English. It got a bit noisy though when a group of cyclist was moving out. In my room one started packing after midnight, the others did their packing in the morning: they started at 4.30 a.m., finished at 5.30 a.m. There were quite a few of them in different rooms, perhaps the staff could do something about it to keep the noise down. Will definitely come back here.

It is the best hostel in China. They don't constantly try to force tours on you. The staff are intelligent humans who enjoy their work, rather than stupid little girls looking for boyfriends as it the norm. The do not try to be 'home away from home'. They place is not full of 'cute' cr*p. Have lunch with the staff, it's the best meal in town. Beer is cheap and cold. Holly is a kind of genius.
