Wouldn't recommend this hostel to people. The beds are very uncomfortable, there was a girl in my room who had bed bugs, my back killed me the other day. Toilets and bathrooms are not very clean and there is only 2 showers and 3 or 4 toilets for over 20 rooms. Staff is oké, nothing special.

The only good thing about this hostel was the price and the location to central station. There's no free wifi, just one computer that is perpetually in use in reception. There was no real common area, so it was a pretty antisocial atmosphere. The girl in the bunk above had bedbugs in her bed, and after she moved, the bed just sat there for 3 nights without anyone taking the sheets or cleaning it. Thankfully they didn't spread to mine! I was so happy to leave!

Hi, I am sorry that you didn;t enjoy your stay with us at Home Backpackers. With regards to free wifi, this is not advertised as you are correct we do not offer it to our guests. You can pay for the wifi or alternatively use the free computer that is located in the reception area. We do ask guests to consider others when using the internet and on the whole if you are waiting then people wont spend any longer than is required. With regards to common areas, we do have two tv rooms one based on each side of the hostel. Generally guests are happy to use these as common areas to socialise. With regards to the Bedbugs I am concerned why there was no action taken if the reception staff were made aware of the issue... As you may be aware Bedbugs are an issue that is in numerous hostels as they are extremely hard to get rid of completely. We do have regular treatments to try and combat them, but with the high traffic within dorms it can be difficult as people can bring them in with them. If you have any further comment or would like to raise any other points with me then please contact me.

I only stayed for one night, but the only things I liked were the tv room and the location. Neither my room nor the bathrooms were cleaned and there were two boys sleeping in my girl only dorm.

I booked one night in this hostel because everything else in Sydney was booked out. I arrived after 5 days of camping in the bush, where i hadn't had the chance to shower, so i was looking forward to hot running water. When i got out of the (exclusively *cold*) shower i felt dirtier than when i went in. Everything is FILTHY. In retrospective, i think that sleeping in the park would have probably been more pleasant. I don't know why this hostel is allowed to operate. Do not stay here.

Prisca, I am sorry that you had a negative experience when you stayed at Home Backpackers. I just wanted to check whether you made the reception staff aware of the issue with the hotwater in the shower that you used and the cleanliness of the shower in general. If you did make the reception staff aware of this issue then I would hope that they would have advised of the location of other showers within our hostel. We do have multiple boilers within the hostel to ensure that should there be an issue with one that the others still have hot water available. Also i would hope that if the cleanliness of the shower was not at the level that it should be then the staff would have arranged for the shower to be cleaned again by one of the onsite cleners. Again i would like to apologise for your negative experience and I would like to ensure you that we do take all feedback and try and remedy any issues that are raised. Should you have any further comment then please feel from to contact me directly via our website. Kind regards Paul Home Backpackers.

I arrived at 9pm. No one was at the reception, they said to call a number there if want to check in. Phone switched off! I was in a female dorm room and it was really dirty. There was plates, bottles, stuff everywhere on the floor, on the desk. There was no free lockers to used, the others was using more than one. lockers were broken. The bunk bed didn't have railing on the top bunk or ladder. Absolutely dirty place. No air con. Really hot as no windows in the dorm room. Worst hostel experienc

Lights in each bathroom were broken so we had to use facilities with the door open - not a big deal for us but this would certainly bother some people I'm sure. Generally old and shabby room/building. Sheets were clean but had stains on them. Service was good. Staff friendly and helpful. Good vibe. Typical hostel, nothing special, but not unacceptable.

At 9pm after a long haul flight I struggled to check in 'cause reception was shut and I didn't have a phone. I only stayed 1 night. 1 hot night, with 1 battling fan to trying to cool a full room. I took a cool shower, but the shower, hair clogged, smelt of puke. There was no curtain on the window and people can see straight in. The bed was in pretty bad shape, but the sheets were clean. there's tea and coffee but no mugs and the kettles broken. didn't find breakfast, no staff to ask, no wifi.
