Home at the Mansion was rated the most popular hostel in Melbourne at the 2011 Hoscars and no wonder - it's centrally located near Queen Victoria Market, Federation Square and Chinatown. Hostelworld guests have said this is 'a great hostel to arrive to in Melbourne, especially just getting off of a long flight'. This hostel has clean, bright and airy rooms with high ceilings and our users say they particularly appreciate the 'awesome courtyard with picnic tables/sun loungers/ping-pong table/dart board'. Several travellers tell us they plan to stay here again because 'weekends here are party central'.
Property Information:
Located in a spectacular heritage building, Home at The Mansion is Melbourne's newest and most striking backpackers! With a completely new fit-out, guests can enjoy brand new facilities teamed with the best customer service! With only 95 beds you can be assured a more personal experience provided by staff whom enjoy their job!
Our dorm rooms comprise of 4, 5, 6, 7, and 12 bed rooms. Each room has a big sunny window, very high ceilings with beautiful ornate features and of course all have brand new bed, mattresses and linen. For added luxury every room has a flat-screen TV!
We only have two private rooms; therefore it's essential to book in advance! Each of these rooms has a nice sunny window, high ceilings with beautiful ornate ceilings, a double bed, flat-screen TV, and clothes rail. These rooms are small and this is reflected in the very reasonable price charged.
Since May 2011 we've had brand-new lockers in all rooms.
There are spanking new bathrooms on each floor, some of which are fully self contained with a single toilet, shower and hand basin in one room. Some dorms have the added bonus of a hand basin in the room; the 12-bed dorm has its own toilet and hand basin.
Our facilities include a communal TV room/kitchen, laundry, BBQ area, big sunny garden, internet access, $3-per-hour Wi-Fi, luggage storage, tour information and bookings. Enjoy the company of your fellow travellers at our complimentary Wine and Cheese Night and our BBQ Nights.
This is the full package, with an excellent location with brand new facilities and furnishings, friendly and helpful staff and a size small enough to get to know fellow guests.

Home at The Mansion says
We're located in one of Melbourne's most impressive and striking heritage-listed building. Even though the building looks huge, we're one of Melbourne's smaller hostels so guests receive more personal service. We have free wine and cheese nights on Wednesdays and 'Sausage Sizzles' on Sundays on the BBQ. There's also regular social nights out, including bowling, footy nights, fancy dress pub crawls and more, plus free DVD hire, a PlayStation games area and a large, sunny garden complete with picnic tables and sun loungers, right smack in the middle of the city!

Our location means you can easily walk to many of Melbourne's major attractions such as Chinatown, Queen Victoria Markets, Melbourne Museum and many, many more! The free City Circle tram and tram 96 to St. Kilda beach leave from our doorstep. One of my favourite local areas is Brunswick St; it's literally a short stroll away, where guests can find many funky cafés offering a wide range of cheap meals along with some of the best and most unique shops in Melbourne. Brunswick St is also highly regarded for its pubs and bars, many offering a variety of different live music.- Richard Mort, General Manager
