Nice hostel but the lack of a proper common area meant it wasn't very social. Lots of long termers but nice room and bathrooms.

Best thing about hostel is the position, very very close to all city sights and transport. Staff friendly and obliging. We stayed in a private room so it didn't really affect us but there are no common areas apart from kitchen, outside garden,a couple of small areas poked in next to stairs and the foyer. Cleanliness could definitely be improved. Empty toilet roll holders took a day to be renewed, soggy bathmats likewise. Peplacement linen is left on the floor outside rooms.

Can't imagine a greater hostel to stay in Melbourne. The character and location of the place got my attention initially, being just a block away from Brunswick Street. As I was traveling solo, the welcoming and helpful attitudes of the staff were greatly appreciated. Upon arrival I was invited to a free BBQ that night, and enjoyed a low key Sunday session in the chilly courtyard. Will return next time for sure!

Great staff, very helpful and friendly!! Thanks to Matthias and the whole staff group. Very clean showers, toilets, and kitchen (for me that's the most important).

The double bed room is too small, not enough space to keep things. However, the staffs are friendly and helpful.

Very noisy, because of the road just in front but mostly because of backpackers : they party from early in the evening (deafening music in the kitchen, table and kitchen left dirty, and no more seats for you to have your dinner, cause they are all drinking at the table). Staff does nothing for the comfort of people who prefer sleeping at night and visit Melbourne during the day rather than party all night every night. We really liked the TV in the dorm, everything was clean

The building is quite old, the wood floor is squeaky, which is very distubing when your roomate is coming back very late at night, or going out early in the morning. There are 3 private bathroom on the 3rd floor, however they aren't very clean, thus I would rather use the shared bathrooms. Location is good, very near to tram station and train station, and there are plenty of hotels nearby, which is good when you need pick up for day tours.

Good hostel centrally located, about 10 minutes walking to main streets and shops. Only stayed there for two nights and was good (warm welcome, clean dorm and bathrooms) but quite noisy at night, don't forget to bring your earplugs! Also it is an old building so the floor of the room was quite squeaky.

The hostel was too big not helping solo travellers a lot. But people are nice, the staff too and it was clean.

The building was really beautiful, we felt quite lucky for the money we'd paid. The staff were all pretty rad and the rooms were good enough for what we wanted. Had a great stay, thanks guys!

I really had a nice time at the Mansion. My room was small but clean, and the staff was more than helpful. The only thing I have a negative opinion about is the fact, like others before me have pointed out too, that there is no room for people to hang out in. On Friday night everybody was drinking and being obnoxious in the kitchen, where I wanted to have my dinner... Other than that, great hostel!

A bit small kitchen and dining area. There was party almost every night ind the garden just outside the room. The hostel policy was that the garden should be empty by 11 pm, but the staff didn't do anything about it - apert from joining the party.

The kitchen is quite small and crowded, will be better if there is another one else where in the Mansion. Beautiful building and comfortable rooms. I particularly like the bathroom on the ground floor, it is neat and tidy most of the time, and it is pretty spacious. I was staying on the ground floor, close to the front yard party area. It is sometimes a bit too noisy when people were having party late in the night =( Recommend not to choose room on the ground floor. Staff are very friendly.

Loved the showers . No complaints , though I have a few suggestions for improvement: - Install a night light for each bed - bigger lockers - Stayed in a 5 bed dorm which was a little squeezy

Maybe the interior of the building needs some renovation to be as stunning as the exterior and facade.
