It´s such a nice place to live in, a lot of people from many different countries live there. But in the other hand it´s not a good hostel to be on vocation.

This was an interesting place to say the least. I didn't sleep because I had an early flight so stayed in the lounge. It is full of long termers and they were friendly and very chatty. Some stayed up with me and chatted througout the night. Was a scary neighbourhood though and I had to wait for my taxi at 4.00am.. Lucky someone came down and waited with me. Very exceptional staff who helped me to get a good trustworthy taxi. I recommend this hostel if you want to party in London.

Everyone that worked there was very nice and helpful. The only thing is that it's located (literally) directly above a bar and can get somewhat loud at night. It's not terrible, but you can hear the music so if you're one of those people who need complete silence to fall asleep, take this into consideration. Overall, I really enjoyed my stay there. Definitely worth what we paid.

I liked the experience of being at a hostel and a pub at the same time! it was different to meet people that in fact are living in London, that is, many of non-backbackers...that makes you get more information of the city out of its inhabitants.. for this, it looks like that there are many people that are not quite interested in meeting new people..they might get a little bit annoyed about the travelers that go there 4just a while!Overall I enjoyed it;the freedom feeling, most of all;breakfast 2

Fun place, right near brixton tube station. Bar is right below, so it's noisy at night. The bass from the live music rattles the room.

If you are looking for a cheap place to stay than this is ok. If you like to have clean showers, clean kitchen and a place to have a good sleep, don't come. Beds are horrible and bar bellow is too loud. I had some issues with my bed because was it was stripped and given to a 'newcomer' while I was out exploring London. In the end it was sorted out but couldn't be done without a verbal fight. The place is ok for people who need to stay just anywhere or are used of living in a squat house.

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with feedback. We would like to assure future customers that the showers and kitchen are cleaned daily by our fantastic cleaning team. The building dates back to 1900's so the appearance is not a sterile Ikea look if that is what you are after. The Hoot has a well loved family home feel :) It is advertised as being above an award winning live music venue so if you are a light sleeper then earplugs are recommended or you should perhaps look at alternative accommodation . In regards to the bed being stripped it was due to the customer moving from their assigned bed without advising reception, when explained to the customer that it happened as a result of their moving it was hard for the customer to understand that it was a result of their actions. This place is AWESOME, FRIENDLY and EASY GOING. Check out the other reviews. If you want a different experience of London and a real unique hostel then you have found the right one in The Hootananny Hostel, Brixton. Safe travels, THE HOOT CREW

If you come to have fun in a hotel in London, it is definitly the place to stay in London. There is a good mix between short terms and long tems. And they have fun all the the time. There was even some fancy dresses that the hostellers use during the night when partying. But if you only want to sleep, like in a standard hotel, it is not really the good place to stay.

Far away from anything, staff never put those cover things on the blankets. There was a group of kids living there, who just ignored us like we weren't there. And even said they were tired of talking to so many strangers. Yeah not a good place if you're looking to meet new people and have fun.

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback. Brixton is at the end of the Victoria line, it takes just 12 minutes on the tube to zip in to Central London like Oxford Circus or 22 minutes to hit up places like the famous Camden Market in North London. The bonus of not being in Central london is you don't pay Central London prices for a dorm bed. The bed's are now made for guest when they arrive so you don't have to worry about putting those 'cover things' on the blankets :) When it comes to meeting people in the Hostel it does go both ways. Hootananny Hostel is a great mix of long termers and short termers who are always happy to mingle but it takes two to tango ;) Safe travels, THE HOOT CREW x

It was in a decent area, but about a 10 minute walk from the nearest tube station. It was clean enough, but everything was very old and worn out. The staff was helpful. It' above a bar so don't expect it to be quiet.

The beds are in need of replacement, and mine in particular: there was blood on it! I'm sure it was washed and so forth, but still. They need to update their living situation and cleanliness level.

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback. I am so sorry to learn of your unpleasant experience. That's horrible!! :( I have found the offending mattress and in front of all the other mattress' burnt it down to it's bare springs as an example that we will not accept anything but 100% cleanliness and hygiene from them! :)))) LOL... but in all seriousness due to recent feedback from customers we are in the process of getting quotes to replace all mattress and duvet covers. Safe travels THE HOOT CREW

I enjoyed my stay at Hootananny. The hostel itself is BEAUTIFUL — big rooms with big windows and funky paintings on the walls — but the mattresses and linens need replacing. The staff was overall great. They played drinking games with my friends and me and seemed to generally want to get to know us. Security is somewhat subpar because the only lockers available are really small. Finally, I was worried about the location (Brixton), but it ended up being an easy 30-minute bus ride from London.

I had a lovely stay at Hootananny, and made lots of friends in the short time I was there. Everybody is a long-termer, which can be intimidating, but everybody is open to socializing with the backpackers if you're open as well. Loved the casual living-room like lounge, and the balcony to smoke on. Lovely atmosphere of live music in the pub below. Lockers, a kitchen, warm showers, awesome bus connections to Central London, not much else I could ask for. Just to forewarn, a party hostel!

We arrived late at night to find the 'receptionist' taking shots behind the bar. Taking us upstairs to a dirty room with ripped carpets and drugs on the floor and nightstands. The bedlinnen was gross and so was the whole hostel. Needless to say we left even though it was 11PM, no way we were going to stay in that rathole!

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback. We have investigated the matter in regards to the bar staff that checked you in and have discussed the importance of maintaining a professional approach at work. Rooms are inspected regularly for maintenance. In relation to drugs on the floor and night stands Hootananny Hostel takes a firm stance on zero drug tolerance however we cannot be expected to control what other guests are storing or doing in their rooms especially if it is not brought to our attention. If this actually was the case, and we had been made aware it at the time it would have been dealt with accordingly. The hostel is clean and the sheets are laundered after every use. I cant help but feel you are trying to exaggerate because you were expecting a 5* hotel. Check out our other reviews and you will find nearly everyone enjoys a good stay at Hootananny Hostel. :) Safe travels. THE HOOT CREW
